White Peacock at Two Dogs Farm
Photograph info: This photograph was taken today at Two Dogs Farm in Tinicum Township, about 15 minutes south of Durham Township. This white peacock was recently adopted by the farm's owners and has no name yet. I recommended the name "Mae Murray" after a 1920s silent film star with blonde hair who often wore dramatic headpieces, as in this wonderful image. Thank you for visiting Durham Township! --Kathleen p.s. Filmmaker Ajit Anthony Prem made a short documentary film here in Durham a couple of years ago - he finally finished it up and posted it here on Vimeo the other day - check it out! Great job, Ajit! Carefully crafted light like out of an Caravaggio, perfect color palette restricted to those shadows of brown (given that white is a non-color). Strong image - definitely working for me! Posted by Markus Spring on October 21, 2009 1:41 AMthis is so special; i love it. Posted by sarah on October 21, 2009 2:51 AMReally like this photo. The white against the brown tones is striking. Would love to see the plumage open sometime, must be quite a sight. Posted by Noreen on October 21, 2009 6:11 AMThis is a MAGNIFICENT shot. I saw your blog site through a friend and I must say- it's truly gorgeous. I've been a fan of Andrew Wyeth's for some time and I must say I can see influences of his work on your own. You're pictures speak volumes and I can only say, it's an honor to have visited here today. - Steve Posted by Stephen Roberts on October 21, 2009 9:11 AMI love this shot. Really nice! You do an extraordinary job. Your pictures are an inspiration. Posted by Larraine on October 21, 2009 11:20 AMBeautiful! The little bit of reflection captured in the mirror is exquisite! Posted by Neuroknitter on October 21, 2009 1:13 PMSo serious. So formal. So stylish. So fine. So Connallyesque. So how much you want for the frame? I would inquire regarding the screen door, but it is obviously priceless. Got to be a poem there, Jon. Posted by David Tinnon on October 21, 2009 2:04 PMBeautiful light and I'm delighted to find a peacock that could be photographed effectively in black-and-white. :-) The documentary was wonderful. It was worth the wait! Posted by Tony on October 21, 2009 2:28 PMlooks like the hen wear a little crown :) good one! Posted by minimodi on October 21, 2009 3:19 PMA capture of a lifetime - Brilliant! Inside the room the light is mostly muted That's an amazing photo - I thought of Vermeer right away! Posted by M Gomez on October 21, 2009 8:45 PMThe mirror in the corner makes me think of an old painting. Very nice composition. Posted by Diana on October 22, 2009 1:28 AMThis is such a wonderful picture. I will never have a camera like you have but we do have a Canon Power Shot SD630. I have more time these days and I plan to take pictures and learn as I go. You are always a good example for me. Posted by Technobabe on October 22, 2009 9:08 AMAmazing shot kathleen! The setting is perfect. I have to go look at the video. Posted by Laurie on October 26, 2009 7:05 AMThe surprise factor on this one is a big hit. You just don't expect that pose from that animal on that place. The light it's just breathtaking, it could be easily confused with a painting. This is a stunning photo! I love that there is a mirror here. Amazin lighting. Posted by Jennifer on October 26, 2009 10:36 PMGreat shot! The lighting, the slight decrepitness/dirtiness, and the stark contrast of the white peacock make this a shot that you can dwell on as a viewer. Posted by Erinn on October 28, 2009 9:27 AMKathleen, I have been visiting your blog for several years -- your photos are so good that I often take them for granted. And just when I start to feel that way, you share one that just stands out even more. This (from my perspective) is one of those special ones...when I think you can't get any better, you do!
