Sailboats on Lake Nockamixon

Photograph info: This photograph was taken last Sunday afternoon at Lake Nockmixon, a ten minute drive from Durham Township. It was a warm, calm, misty day but the sun finally broke through mid-afternoon to illuminate a group of boats out for sailing lessons. Within five minutes of this shot, the sun was shining brightly for the rest of the day.

Although misty air tends to obliterate detail (no matter how sharp your lens) check out the humongo version at 1500 wide x 1000 high for a nice, large view.

Camera settings and post-processing: Shot with the Canon EOS 5D Mark II and the Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS lens at 200mm, ISO 400, f/9.0, shutter 1/2000s. Could've brought the ISO down here but the light changed so quickly that it became a matter of adjusting camera settings or getting the shot. (WWYD?) Camera JPEG file; basic curves adjustment for contrast.

Thank you for visiting Durham Township!

When the sky turnes cold and gray
When the coast is draped in black
Cast off no line, and set no sail
Lest this day you don't come back

Yet sail they do as sail they must
though the weather has gone to the devil
For them what tacks o're Lake Nockamixon
shall always sail on the level

And yet doth Kathleen oft protest
to Photoshop is like onto sin
the sails that dot
this Lake Nockamixon shot
look as if she "cut n pasted" them in :)

Wonderful. I like how small the boats look against the landscape.

This photo reminds me of a contemporary watercolor painting. I like sky and water photos - nice one.

Definitely, get the shot or shots first. Then play around with the settings for other shots. Keep up the good work.

What a great shot. I love the "storm on the horizon" feel this gets

I love how crisp those white sails are. The white really pops.

Great shot - the contrast and size ratio between the white sales and the dramatic sky is really effective! Nice one :)
