Rain Cloud, Nockamixon Road

Photograph info: I took this photograph a few weeks ago but I'd forgotten about it! So much going on this time of year ...

A minute after this I took this shot, the tail end of a rainbow appeared in the distance. I continued to photograph the scene (despite the whole event making us late for our Cub Scout meeting!), but the rain cloud in this frame was more interesting than the rainbow. I don't recall seeing a rain cloud quite this dramatic during ten years of living here.

Camera settings and post-processing: Shot with the Canon EOS 5D and the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L lens at 24mm, ISO 400, f/8.0, 1/100s. Curves adjustments for contrast, saturation.

Thank you for visiting Durham Township!

Though the sky is a pallet of gray
Field and forest in sunlight do lay.
It was worth a few minutes delay
To record the beauty of this day.

Nice shot, it almost looks as if the cloud is about to engulf you.

Thanks

Wow, how ominous!

Love the squiggly lines in the clouds that are high up ~ it's like the gods are dancing. Beautiful light in the meadow. A stunning capture, Kathleen!

Wonderful skyscape. Being in the tropics at the moment, this looks in a way homesickness-evoking to me.

Beautiful light.

It is such a lovely scene. The phenomena is really amazing.

I saw something similar at one of the reservoirs in Hunterdon County NJ a couple of years ago. It too was followed by a rainbow. It is quite fascinating and breathtaking to watch.

Now there is an intelligent design. I see you're on a hot streak. Nothing like a huge neutral mass to make a patch of sun take on amazing properties....and you have an affinity for amazing properties.

This so makes my day, thanks more endless....

Stunning shot. The colour from the sun in contrast to the moody storm is breathtaking. Great work.

Love the symmetry in the land and sky. A powerful image of the elements.

Love the composition..the horizontal bands and layers of color..and - of course - the light.

Its all about capturing light and you did it beautifully here!

That is one ominous looking cloud. I like the contrast between the cloud and the sunshine that's managed to find its way through.

Great composition, love the colours and the lights ...

I love the juxtaposition of the dark ominous rain cloud, and the bright vivid colors in the lower part of the image. Very nice photo!

I really like the composition of the photo. The colors are also employed to make the composition more powerful, this is what i really like!
The contrast of colors is very amazing, the gray at the top of the photo and the movement to green and orange/yellow colors at the bottom of the photo. The light at the right bottom of the photo is obeying the Golden Point rule.
Totally, Perfect!
However, i think maybe if the gray layer at the top of the photo was smaller (Even equal to the other two layer, the green layer at the bottom and the layer with white clouds), it could produce another nice photo.

Ha. I'm with you on losing track of time while photographing... I do it all the time. It appears as though this cloud is just over you, following like in a cartoon.

That is one spectacular cloud. I love the sunlight creeping underneath and lighting the fields up, not letting that cloud have complete control...

The lighting is magical and the layered effect creates magnificent depth in the photo. You've mastered the sky!
