The Shadow of the Durham Church Steeple on Low-Hanging Rain Clouds as a Car Goes By
Photograph info: I took this photograph on Wednesday night coming home from a Cub Scout meeting. It's a weird shot and hard to describe! The Durham church (built in 1813) is near the top of a big hill where rain clouds sometimes hang low. In this photo, the church is to the left (out of the picture), and the very bright lights that illuminate the front door & the steeple (also out of the picture) are creating a shadow of the steeple on the low clouds. To boot, there's a car passing by on the road in front of the church - the long red streaks are the car's tail lights. The cloud shadow is a strange phenomenon - I've seen it before but this time I had the camera (and a patient Cub Scout), although no tripod, so I wedged the camera against the open car window to keep it still for this long exposure. I hope that makes sense! (Here's a shot I took a couple of years ago, a few yards further down the road - you can see the steeple clearly.) Camera settings and post-processing: Shot with the Canon EOS 5D Mark II Thank you for visiting Durham Township! --Kathleen Comments
Fantastic night shot! Posted by Tero on April 2, 2009 1:56 AMOh this is phenomenal! Words escape me! Posted by Kokonad on April 2, 2009 2:03 AMDefinitely a great one! A shadow where you wouldn't expect it! Posted by Torben on April 2, 2009 3:23 AMWonderful! Unusual and very pleasing. Love this one and the 07 photo is another favorite. Posted by Nreen on April 2, 2009 6:20 AMWow, very cool and very clever. 30 second shutter? Pretty clever 'tripod' technique :-) I'm relatively 'local' to you, I live in Chalfont and I often ride my motorcycle in Upper Bucks looking for photo opportunities. I took a pretty neat photo on the way to work earlier this week, which is posted on my photoblog. Thanks for sharing. Ir's foggy this morning again. Maybe there will be more good shots this morning! Give the cub scout a big hug. Before you know it, he will be a teenager. DAMHIK. Awesome. At first I thought it was a funnel cloud.
