Gayle, Four Months

Photograph info: This photograph was taken yesterday on a trip to sunny Brooklyn, NY, where I visited with my niece Becky in her amazing letterpress studio called Moontree Arts.

Gayle is a Boston Terrier and the newest member of the family. Although Gayle lives in Brooklyn she'll be visiting Durham often to chase the squirrels from my birdfeeders.

Camera settings and post-processing: Shot with the Canon EOS 5D Mark II and the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L lens at 24mm, ISO 400, f/2.8, 1/2000s. I was sitting in a chair and put the camera on the floor for this shot - really happy with the spontaneity, which is my current pursuit, and got lucky with the focus. Curves adjustments for contrast.

Thank you for visiting Durham Township!

"got lucky with the focus" - lol. You must get lucky alot! (Don't put yourself down. You've got more than luck.)

I always enjoy a picture of things black and white.
It could be critter or landscape or a city at night.
Now this little dog is basking in the light
Looking more friendly than wanting to give you a fright.
To dwell in the city may be his current plight
But it will be off to Durham Township when he wants to give flight.

The curving pattern on the print shop floor, and the pup's posture creates the illusion that Gayle is sitting at a bar, awaiting her brewski and (dog)biscuits.
Actually reminds me of those "auto-repair-shop-office-wall" calendars featuring the pack of pups playing poker. I imagine Gayle will join the game in the back room as soon as she gets her thirst quenched, and flips two bits for a cigar.

I know you shy from post production, but would a deck of cards, cigar, and a shot glass be too much to ask here? I see a great composite shot potential; "Deal-in the Dogs of Durham," all composed around a big poker table in a smoky room with snapshots of famous photographers taped to the walls, and....Well, anyway Kathleen, you must admit that is a poker face! (And a well shot face it is!)

This is just awesome...I love it. The pup is so cute and the expression is priceless.

Wouldn't call it luck! The pup is well exposed (photographically speaking!) and I really like the play of light in the foreground receding into the shadows of the background. Nice.

So cute!! I've been wanting a dog, but not at the point in my life to have one. I see everyone out walking their doggies and it makes me want one even more!!

What an absolutely adorable dog!!!
Gayle is my middle name, so that makes me like her even better...
(been a while, see the photos are just as beautiful as ever)

Seeing this image of Gayle reminded me of my friend, Erika, who has three...yes, three...Boston terriers. Thought you might enjoy her site; http://www.pbase.com/erikajake/animals
