Stuck

Photograph info: This photograph was taken today - we had a late winter snowstorm over the last 24 hours which left a foot of snow in Durham Township. Of course, no school and lots of fun hiking and sledding, too.

Camera settings and post-processing: Shot with the Canon EOS 5D Mark II and the Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L lens with circular polarizing filter at 17mm, ISO 200, f/9, 1/125s. Curves adjustments.

Thank you for visiting Durham Township!

I love this, Kathleen. You've captured a great childhood memory. I think my labrador enjoyed the snow more than my kids did today. As soon as she saw all the snow, she got so excited, she literally ran laps around the entire yard. And if that wasn't enough to tire her out, she then tried to chase the end of my snow shovel as we cleared out the driveway. It was a nice snow to be out in.

Beautiful picture! Texture of the sky and ice is beautiful! Is this an HDR image?

White Sugar Planet Safty Tips

When exploring the White Sugar Planet,
One must always watch one's step!
If you take your footing for granite,
You may soon be calling for help!
But if stuck you should become,
just kick back and let it be.
Rescue here can take a while,
As the team is having tea.

A delightful, documental piece of work Kathleen! (And a yeoman's job by the usual stunt crew--I'm like totally LOL over here!)

Tiffany B.: At one point, yes! :)

Abhijit Dharmadhikan: Not HDR. (I've never used HDR on any of my images.)

It was extremely bright when I shot this, so I used a circular polarizing filter on the lens to cut some of the glare.

Love it...very cute moment. He looks like he's saying..."A little help her? Please? Anyone?"

We were told to be prepared for at least 8 inches and up to 14...we got maybe 5 and that is being generous. Oh well...School was canceled in anticipation of the storm...but my 16 year old, the last one living home, chose to sleep in rather than romp in the snow...teenagers!

Moments ago I was King of the Hill, having a run of mighty good luck.
Now I've stepped over the edge
Into a snow bank I did wedge
And I think I've become rather stuck.

Did you ever find a good pair of gloves to work in this cold weather?

How beautiful can it get in Durham? The sky, the snow and your model work their magic again.

stunning image, you have really captured the fun!

Yep, that's what it looked like. The nice thing about a snow like this at this time of year is that it falls, looks beautiful and then disappears quickly. It going to hit 60 by the weekend. By the way, I'm just up the road in Hellertown.

Don't you just love the new 5D2? It handles just about every lighting condition with such ease.

Great use of wide angle, with the polarizer helping on the wonderful colors. Lovely picture!

Having just watched an interesting photography documentary I have concluded that your images are very similar in subject to that of Sally Mann; though of course not quite so controversial. I like her work and will probably purchase her book "Immediate Family". I like the documentary style both you and Sally have.

Mooch: Thanks - will look up her work. Not familiar with it.
