Photograph info: Back to Durham Township! This photo was taken a couple of weeks ago on trip to the general store for a gallon of milk. (I bring the camera everywhere.)

If you're interested in seeing more photos from my trip to the Westminster Kennel Club Show two weeks ago, check out this slideshow that I made over the weekend featuring 42 images. (It's uses flash so it may take a few seconds to load.) I'll be using the same software to create slideshows about other subjects in the near future. (If you have a moment, drop me a note to let me know how the slideshow worked on your browser.)

Camera settings and post-processing: Shot with the Canon EOS 5D Mark II and the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L lens at 30mm, ISO 400, f/13, 1/60s. Camera JPEG file, no post-processing.

Thank you for visiting Durham Township!

Special note: On Monday, February 23rd at 7:00 p.m., I'm giving a presentation about this photoblog to the Delaware Photographic Society at their monthly meeting in the DuPont Pavillion of Cokesbury Village, 726 Loveville Road, Hockessin, Delaware. The meeting is free and open to the public, so if you're in the area, stop by and say hello!

I enjoyed the dog show pictures and even laughed out loud at #40, Samoyed with Owner, but it's great to have you back in Durham county!

I always like the sky in your frames. It's dramatic!

Wow. This is gorgeous.

The kind of landscape a dog could love. Guess you went for milk at the perfect moment, judging by the shadow angle and those idyllic strokes of warm light. George Inness would not complain, nor would any of the Hudson River Academicians. I'm certainly not complaining, so I'm in good company! (And a little fresh air after a dog show doesn't hurt either.)

I like the composition very much. The colors are amazing especially when there is no post processing.

Hi Kathleen,

I love shots like this. The sun warms the trees in such interesting ways.

Thanks for the slideshow! It works like a champ in Firefox.

vertical landscapes are always interesting. i always see them more as a portrait. i love the patterns in the sky and the contrast. makes me want to go out and get a gallon on milk :)

To New York City with camera she did wield
Taking pictures of show dogs it did yield.
Home to Durham Township and to The Church Field...
A winter landscape has now to me appealed.

Beautiful light - It makes me imagine walking across the field in my wellies with a dog or 2 or 3 and a fire in the woodstove with a bubbly pot of stew waiting...

Once again the clouds perform their magic for you.
What lovely colors.
It was so enjoyable to get to see you and hear you tonight at your presentation. Seeing JPH and his beautiful family was an extra.Thought for sure he would wind up the program with a little poetry.

What an amazing and spectacular scene. Wish my trips to the grocery store were as beautiful.

I, my wife, my son and his'on
Up the pike yesterday afternoon in our cars went a-whizzin'.
Now the Delaware Photo Society is some interesting folks
And were joined by a pair of their English sister club's blokes.
But by far the most interesting time of the night
Was the talk on "Photographs and Photoblogs" that shed some new light.
Kathleen shared her thoughts with candor and grace
Even answering questions for those in the place.
So thanks for the evening, it was a great place to be.
You made us proud to be part of your extended family.

This is just beautiful with that glorious light.

Do you use a tripod for your landscape scenes? Any filters?

Awesome photos!

Posted by Harold on February 25, 2009 8:42 AM

It's always nice to see you shooting back on your home turf again, as your emotional connection to the work is obvious. Anyone can take cute snaps at dogs shows and the like, but your personal space work has a resonance unmatched.

I like that red light flooding the panorama. Durham Township looks amazing.

Nice shot, the sky make everything else look so small.

Posted by Cassy on February 26, 2009 10:31 AM

Harold: I rarely use a tripod - long evening or night exposures only. Occasionally I'll use a polarizing filter or an ND but not too often - I include that info in the photo description if I do.

Beautiful shot.

Note on the slideshow: it worked just fine for me. Firefox 3.0.6, Mac OS 10.4.11.

I am a photography enthusiast, my home is a Arenys sea village on the Mediterranean coast of Catalonia (Spain) for some time I'm visiting your site which I like very much, I only want to tell you the way you see the photo matches which I myself am tired of so much as touch, that way I feel the photo does nothing but distort the reality of images that would not modify the very beautiful and at the same time tell us a lot of both the environment which have been made and the person who has taken.

thanks for your photos. a greeting angel.
