Moravian Single Sisters' House, Side View

Photograph info: This photograph was taken a couple of weeks ago during a light snowfall in the city of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, about 20 minutes from Durham Township.

This is a side view of the same building in the previous post.

Camera settings and post-processing: Shot with the Canon EOS 5D and the Canon 85mm f/1.2L lens at f/1.2, 1/125s, ISO 1600. White balance adjustment and basic curves adjustment. (Not a typical use for this lens, but interesting results.)

Thank you for visiting Durham Township!

The limited range of tones and faint of snow gives excellent mood to the picture. The photo is also very carefully composed. There is nice rhythm between the windows and the trees.

The free-form stone pattern, combined with the night, and snowfall on the shrubbery, gives a nice light fantasy aire to the shot--and suggests quite convincingly that the art of architectural design has made few advances in recent centuries. I cannot imagine a more thoroughly pleasing exterior design for a residence, studio, dorm, factory, hotel, brewery, photo lab, grandma's place, Snow White's cottage, hobbitses....It is a look that makes me feel welcome and at home, even though I have never been there....

Thanks for shooting two!

I love the warmth of this scene. The light is wonderful and the atmosphere is perfect. I love the quiet beauty and how the snow makes everything magical.

Why is it that only first floor windows have shutters?
Do cleats on the roof really replace the need for gutters?
How come the candles appear outside on the window ledges?
Is it truly snow and not just some more of your Royal Icing on the hedges?
My inquiring mind also wants to know...
Do you fly about so your footprints don't show?

Where has the guiding star gone? I see you as you wish me to: perfect, clean, symmetrical, balanced and pure. All physical and emotional defects hidden as long as this facade stays in place. Do you want me to take the stairs? To come to you? Are you inviting me in or are you telling me that while I may be welcome, there are certain windows to your soul that remain guarded and dark?
