First Snowflakes
Photograph info: This photograph was taken on Saturday night in a grocery store parking lot. It wasn't snowing when we arrived, but much to our surprise (and delight!) there was a half inch of snow on the ground when we left 30 minutes later. Camera settings and post-processing: Shot with the Canon EOS 5D --Kathleen Comments
There once was a woman and her son Lovely shot. Did it taste any good ?? Posted by Tim on December 8, 2008 8:00 AMAn amazing shot! Such perfect composition and light. We got less than a dusting of snow here. It was very disappointing. I got all excited when the flurries started...but nothing worthwhile came of it. With all the cold I think we deserve a little snow to justify the cold. Posted by Laurie on December 8, 2008 9:12 AMSo - does the camera go INTO the grocery store with you, or does it stay in the car? Posted by Steve B. on December 8, 2008 10:11 AMLove the lighting and the crisp details! Excellent image as always Kathleen. Will you be getting the new 5D MKII? Posted by Craig Wilson on December 8, 2008 12:52 PMBeautiful shot. I remember my childhood. Nice atmosphere and compo! Posted by Polydactyle on December 8, 2008 5:16 PMWhat a great shot! Posted by Janet on December 8, 2008 6:30 PMKathleen. Wonderful composition. Love that hat. You would think it was a prop, but I know it's not. I am looking forward to viewing your winter shots. Great job. Posted by Mike on December 8, 2008 9:36 PMLovely photo Kathleen, and another fine example of you taking full advantage of whatever life throws your way....even if it's snow!! :) BTW, each time I visit your site I seem to get hit with malware. Not sure why, but thankfully my antivirus software is picking it up. The most recent 'attack' was with the following: http://trafficinc.ru/spl/pdf.pdf\pdf Posted by Blayne on December 9, 2008 12:09 AMHi Kathleen, First off, another stunning shot. This is the best photoblog out there, hands down. Secondly, I just wanted to add to Blayne's comment. I have a Mac and can't speak to the antivirus software picking anything up but have noticed over the last few weeks that when clicking the comments link, Safari warns that this site is known to contain malware. This check is done through Google. Here's their page about the malware said to be contained on the site: http://google.com/safebrowsing/diagnostic?tpl=safari&site=trafficinc.ru&hl=en-us Don't know if this helps in troubleshooting but I thought I'd throw in my 2 cents (and we all know what that buys today :) Kyle Posted by Kyle on December 9, 2008 12:28 AMDelightfully strange combination of elements. The snow has the "look and Feel" of the cascading lines of code in the "Matrix" flicks...the hat is from "Fargo" ...and the lights from "Close Encounters," that look like eyes with a long nose in between, or a hovering craft in the late stages of beaming up a grapefruit, or the aliens have traveled 3700 light years in the Herculean effort to confirm intra-cosmic rumors of earthlings who have pink tongues--("Never mind about your leader, just say aaaah.") Where on earth do you get this wild stuff? (Oh yeah, right, the supermarket parking lot.) Some folks have a hard time getting started in the winter.....not you, or your stunt man! This is a great start to "Winter With Kathleen!" So put me down for a WWK season pass..........and a three month supply of tomato soup. Pre-Winter Thanks for all the great faces--and the weird flakes to come! Posted by david tinnon on December 9, 2008 2:54 AMAnother in a long line of wonderful photos, but somehow I can't help thinking the background looks like somebody is being abducted by aliens in a UFO :-) Posted by Chip Morningstar on December 10, 2008 1:30 AMTim: Of course! Steve B.: On occasion, it's gone into the store. :) Craig Wilson: I pre-ordered it a couple of months ago... just waiting on Canon to deliver. Blayne & Kyle: Thanks for letting me know - actually, thanks to a LOT of people for letting me know - the problem has been fixed. Chip: I didn't see any aliens... but you never know! Posted by Kathleen on December 10, 2008 7:42 AMGreat shot! love the focus and lighting, captures a real sense of wintery, chritmaskindof snowflakehappines melancholy thingy stuff.. :) Real fan of your blog! these shots are the reason why! Greetings, It makes me smile, thanks for the memories. The hat is perfect and reminds me of Christmas Story :) Posted by Noreen on December 10, 2008 9:29 AMNoreen..my thoughts exactly(Christmas Story)..tongue on frozen flag pole...Great image as always Kathleen! Posted by ilovephotoblogs on December 10, 2008 2:26 PMWhat a wonderfully creative image. Love how you captured the snow in the light..and - I still stick out my tongue to catch them as they fall. To this day I still stick my tongue out when it snows!! Wonderfully creative image. Love the warm tones against the cold snow. Posted by Marcie on December 10, 2008 7:56 PMsuperb dof!! light is excellent, like this photo! Seems like Pennsylvania has mystical atmosphere and photografer soot the machine at the right target and moment. Posted by heavy_machines on December 12, 2008 12:15 AMVery "cool" shot! We are expecting snow here in Auburn, California this weekend. We are at 1,600 feet and usually only get 1-2 snowfalls per year. If the weatherman is right, it will be an exciting weekend here photographically. The Lake Tahoe area (which is about 1 1/2 hours from here) has only had a couple light snowfalls so far this year, which is not enough to open the ski resorts. It sounds like a bad snow year so far nearly everywhere in the country. Posted by Sherri Meyer on December 12, 2008 9:18 AMJe, je, it's a cool shot ! Posted by atzu on December 12, 2008 1:10 PMVery nice shot! it makes me smile! Posted by Giovanni on December 12, 2008 2:18 PMWonderful capture! I love the composition ... your son and the lights are perfectly balanced. AMAZING clarity and light - Wanted to let you know I am a Mac user who is still getting the Malware.. depresses me when I can't see your beautiful work... please fix! :) Posted by Betsy Barron on December 12, 2008 7:22 PMlucky stiff ... we're still waiting for our snow! it sure doesn't feel like X-MAS yet Posted by crash on December 13, 2008 12:28 PMLiving proof, the all new Acme Tongue Tanner can tan any tongue, even in the dead of night, even in a snow storm! Act quickly, order now, even as the tongue tanning tsunami sweeps the globe..... (Fade in jingle) (Relax Kathleen, it's only a spoof, I would not seriously suggest that you've sold out to the International Tongue Tanning {ITT} interests--you, {and the stunt crew} are too cool for that!) Posted by david tinnon on December 14, 2008 11:48 AMWe're still waiting for snow in this part of Scotland (Glasgow), when is it going to come? :( Loving this shot, although he doesn't seem to be all that enthusiastic. Posted by KJ on December 15, 2008 9:56 AMOne of the best shots I've seen lately. Fantastic work Kathleen! Posted by PiXistenZ on December 16, 2008 2:41 PMI still do this when it snows ;-) Great shot! Posted by Claus Petersen on December 19, 2008 4:53 AMThe first snowfall of Winter brings a sense of excitement, a special joy to the soul! Shine your light down upon us and show us the way to the simple pleasures in life, where we can all stick out our tongues and get a taste of the child that lives inside. Posted by Willow on December 24, 2008 12:39 AMVery funny!!!!! great shot :) Posted by chiara on December 26, 2008 12:34 PMthis is pure americana. up there with rockwell's imagery. just timeless and wonderful! Posted by dimitri on January 11, 2009 3:10 AMA great capture of that first snowfall feel. (It almost looks like a faked studio set up rather than just playing around in a parking lot.) Posted by Jim (365,000 words) on January 19, 2009 9:32 AMWhat a great shot! Makes me wanna pickup that old camera of mine again. Posted by Roger Karlsson on February 18, 2009 4:18 AMGreat picture.Maternal background up your way. Mother always enjoyed the first snow. I loved snow shoeing in Vermont.
