PHOTOGRAPH INFO This photo was taken on Tuesday. We've been having an early heatwave (it's technically still spring!) on the east coast with temperatures hovering around 100 degrees Fahrenheit for the last four days. The humidity has been up there, too, due to a subtropical high pressure weather system known as a "Bermuda High." Our local school district has little to no air-conditioning in the buildings or the buses, so the kids got out early two days in a row due to the sweltering temperatures. Camera settings and post-processing: Shot with the Canon EOS 5D Thank you for visiting Durham Township! -- Kathleen Comments
Wow, this image just jumped at me out of my monitor. Great use of DOF! Pretty eyes. Posted by Deniss on June 11, 2008 1:55 AMWow, such a stunning portrait. Good choice to go with a bit of a larger depth or field (thanks to the f/1.6 instead of f/1.2). Very nice! Posted by Thomas on June 11, 2008 3:24 AMBeautiful eyes and fantastic shapes and curves on her face, great-great work! Posted by yz on June 11, 2008 3:36 AMWow... amazing DoF ! Great picture, I realy love this image. Bravo :) Posted by Chris CB on June 11, 2008 4:35 AMVery good portrait. I like the angle. The pose is very natural. Posted by Tero on June 11, 2008 6:39 AMThis gal is no fool Once again, the eyes have it! Stunning. She looks so powerful and so serene at the same time, and the colors and DOF bring that out. Beautiful subject, beautiful work. Posted by Sarah on June 11, 2008 8:30 AMOh yeah, I can see the photographer in the reflection of her eyes. Nice shot! By the way,I am surprised how she could hold her breathe and give you a calm and plain face after swimming. Or did she just dip in? :)A little bit more water droplets on her face would have been more interesting. Posted by Tintinban on June 11, 2008 9:15 AMReally great portrait, Kathleen. Had you not listed your aperture settings, I would have thought the bokeh was enhanced by Gaussian blur. I really like the catchlights in her eyes which really make them sparkle nicely. Was this from light being reflected off the water, reflectors, or flash? Very nice work. Posted by Russ on June 11, 2008 10:21 AMRuss: The light in her eyes is from the late day sun coming through the trees behind us. I think I've used a flash once or twice in the last couple of years - I just prefer eeking out as much natural light as possible in any given situation. That challenge is one of of my greatest delights as a photographer. Posted by Kathleen on June 11, 2008 10:57 AMJust plain beautiful. (Ooooo them eyes!) I was thinking that all this stunning image needs to be totally perfect is some of Ms K's clouds--then I realized that the swimsuit pattern appears to be a tree before a cloud filled Durham sky......so it IS totally perfect. (Did I mention the eyes? Wow!) Thanks for again shooting on the edge.......and thank your model for being a model. Posted by david tinnon on June 11, 2008 1:39 PMWow! Lovely, as always, Kathleen! The colors are great and the depth of field is out of this world. Welcome to summer!! Posted by Andrea on June 11, 2008 3:44 PMReally beautiful portrait. Your dof and the sharp focus around her eyes make it really special!!!! Posted by Marcie on June 13, 2008 1:06 PMDitto:) on every comment!!! Stay out in the water, little mermaid and don't come towards to shore! The long liners, gill netters and shrimpers will ensnare you and leave you to drown, as they do your friends! The trawlers and tankers will spill refuse and oils on you to burn and blind you, as they do your friends! The speed boats and jet skis will slice and cripple you as they do your friends! The aluminum cans and glass bottles littering the ocean floor will cut and infect you, as they do your friends! The plastic drink rings, medical and chemical waste and cigarette butts will choke and slowly strangle you, as they do your friends! Stay far out in the water, little mermaid and live happy and free. Posted by Willow on June 23, 2008 7:30 PMThis is a very good portrait! Both the details and the bokeh is excellent! Posted by Filip on June 26, 2008 3:22 PMThis is a really wonderful photo. Posted by Lud@ on August 3, 2008 7:47 PMI like the looks in her eyes. Posted by Navdeep on August 6, 2008 2:09 PMThe F1.2 would have created too a shallow DOF, indeed. Great F choice here. Beautiful composition and very nice contrasting background colors. Posted by Jan on August 23, 2008 5:49 AMSpeak!
