Dame's Rocket (Hesperis matronalis)

PHOTOGRAPH INFO

This photo was taken on Friday.

Dame's Rocket is a common, "deer-resistant" wildflower in Pennsylvania that blooms from mid-May through mid-June. It was originally introduced as a garden flower by Europeans in colonial times. It has very sweet-scented flowers that range from white to severals shades of pink and purple. The plant and flowers are edible but bitter.

Dame's Rocket is listed as a noxious weed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture because it spreads easily and shades out native wildflowers.

Camera settings and post-processing: Shot with the Canon EOS 5D and the Canon 85mm f/1.2L lens at f/4.5, 1/250s, ISO 100. Curves adjustments and color balancing.

Perfectly composed, we admire beauty personified in the brief and delicate life of simple flowers that give so much pleasure to us all......meanwhile in the distance, some woman is ripping the sweet little Hesperis matronatises limb from limb just for the thrill of it.....you can almost hear the tiny screams of agony mixed with her sighs of extacy.......What if someone pulled her arms and legs off and stuck them in a jar just to smell for a few days?.....then she'd be sorry!....Funny how there are so many well received paintings of women strangling flowers.....All in all though, it is a rather pleasant scene, (and it IS perfectly composed.)

I love this so much! My favorite pictures f yours are the ones that incorporate different depths- I love the subtle, slightly blurry subjects. Keep it up!

I love the unconventional choice of focus in this picture. But such a great bokeh. It's wonderful

Again, a very good photograph :) Very good composition and use of light, focus and point of view.

Beate: Dame's Rocket is often confused with Phlox, although you can tell the difference by counting the petals on the flowers. Dame’s Rocket has four petals and Phlox has five. If the plants aren't in bloom, you can tell the difference by leaf shape and arrangement: Dame's Rocket has alternate, toothed leaves and Phlox has smooth-edged, opposite leaves.

Thanks for visiting! :)

Such terrific color. Very nice.

Clusters of color scattered around
Pink, purple and white on green palette abound.
Noxious weed it may be
But wildflower is what I see.
The beauty of creation is profound.

Beauty is nature, beauty is woman. Whether in focus or shrouded in mystery, they make men wonder, they make men yearn, they make men realize that without them, their souls are forever incomplete.

What's she mean, "their souls are forever incompetent?".........Oh......neVERmind!

This looks like an English country garden. I think the very shallow depth of field woman really adds to this shot.
