Reasons to Pursue a Career in Farming
PHOTOGRAPH INFO I was at the Berks County Agricultural Center in Leesport, Pennsylvania, earlier this week for a class and this sign in the lobby caught my eye. I can think of a few more reasons, how about you? Camera settings and post-processing: Shot with the Canon EOS 5D Thanks for visiting Durham Township! --Kathleen Comments

I like #7. There's something to be said for seeing your accomplishments and being proud of them. Posted by Jesse on April 19, 2008 9:35 PMYes, no farms... no food! Posted by Betty on April 20, 2008 6:44 AMWhy not ,-) Posted by Frank on April 20, 2008 9:17 AMBeautiful photos! :) Posted by Mr. Ilarijs on April 20, 2008 11:55 AMWe have entered strange times. Any way you market their product, farmers are in the fuel production business. The trick now is to continue to produce X amount of fuel product while consuming less than X value of fuel. But thats the fun part, the critical issue is in choosing the right accessories for the job. Guys, whatever you do, don't go the the tractor store alone. Take your wife, mother or girlfriend along to help you pick out a few things. You DO NOT want to drive around your billion acre estate in a machine the size of a Taco Bell that makes you look fat or fails to bring out your natural coloring. What could possibly be more embarrassing than to see an agri-fuel industry mogul cavorting about his "north 40" in a fashion train wreck that costs more than....well....the average train wreck? I'm confident Jakey would back me on this. As for "a good night's sleep after a hard day's work," the farmers I have known could go to bed by mid-morning with that feeling. By the time they do go to bed each night, they rest in the knowing (and the feeling) that they did roughly 2-3 day's work.....and if, at that point, the exhausted farmer should forget to say his prayers, let's all say one for him. (I might get an "Ah-men" from Jakey on this one too!) Posted by david tinnon on April 20, 2008 12:18 PMExcellent - gives you a lot of food for thought and makes you think that its not just a lonely life out on the farm. Posted by Craig Wilson on April 21, 2008 4:19 AMJPH- I think you summed up the feel of this photo nicely. :) Posted by kayt on April 21, 2008 7:57 PMSome reasons are fake. The way is the oposite, biological agriculture and permaculture. Great blog and very nice pictures. Congratulations. Posted by Xavi on January 13, 2009 2:38 PMSpeak!
