A Field of Grape Hyacinth (Muscari botryoides)
PHOTOGRAPH INFO This photo was taken over the weekend in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania. We had two days that were warm enough for bare feet - now there's a chance of light snow in the forecast! Spring is full of suprises. :) Post-processing: Shot with the Canon EOS 5D Thank you for visiting Durham Township! -- Kathleen Comments
pretty amazing to think of an entire field of these little pretties! Fantastic focal control. :-) Posted by dewaun.simmons on April 14, 2008 1:02 AMGreat composition and very good use of dof. Well done! Posted by Tero on April 14, 2008 1:12 AMOutstanding photo! Extreme 3-D! A terrific "spring has sprung" action capture and a great illustration of the expression, "show them your heels." We had a dusting of snow last week, but the weekend here hit 80 degrees. The Super-Soakers are all out of winter storage, and so are the Yellow Jackets. Thanks for Spring's official opening shot, we are off and running! Posted by david tinnon on April 14, 2008 1:44 AM Wow! Hyacinths this early in the year. Beautiful photograph. Playful. Light. I hope you and yours are well. I subscribe to your RSS, thank you for the wonderful images you post I receive. You are a truly amazing photographer. Best, Amazing dof! Brilliant framing. Love the DOF and colours - a very refreshing and enchanting image, lovely work Kathleen. Posted by Craig Wilson on April 14, 2008 5:34 AMHi Best Wish This is beautiful, Kathleen. Such evident joy mingled with unspoiled innocence. The freedom of youth and a dewy wet field of flowers. Very nice, one of the best images I've seen today. Posted by picturegrl on April 14, 2008 6:54 AMAnupam: For this shot, I used the 180mm f/3.5L lens, which is a very long macro lens. With a longer length lens like a 180mm, more distance is needed to frame the subject. At that distance, the lens compresses the subject matter, so there's a change in perspective. Also the narrow view means there's less backround, so whatever background there is becomes diffused. So... no Photoshoppery. :) Posted by Kathleen on April 14, 2008 7:22 AMreally well done, kathleen. the top has a painter-like quality to it that really makes it. Posted by Geoff on April 14, 2008 8:18 AMwas this at Alburtis Park, Lock Ridge? We were there yesterday taking photos, need to post them on my blogger, but they are up on my flickr acct.... Posted by Beth on April 14, 2008 9:35 AMGorgeous! Where exactly was this taken? I'd love to see this field in person. Posted by Alec Long on April 14, 2008 10:16 AMOMG, was this taken at Lockridge Park near Macungie (which is in Lehigh County)? I found a very similar field of grape hyacinth there on Sunday evening while looking over the park for a potential photo shoot in a couple of weeks. My jaw just dropped when I saw this field, but I wasn't sure what kind of flowers they were until now. I love how you include the boy's running barefeet in this image. Excellent composition, Kathleen. Posted by Russ on April 14, 2008 10:51 AMBeautiful Kathleen ! This one should go in your "Best Pictures" category. I don't know what it is you do, or if it's just the fact that Durham Township in PA has amazingly good light, but your images always blow me away. I have to think that you have mastered the art of curves adjustment and color balancing. Whatever it is, it works incredibly well. Posted by PhotoJim on April 14, 2008 10:55 AMA fun photo with gorgeous capture of grape hyacinths. What joy to see a field of them! Love the dof. Posted by Anita Bower on April 14, 2008 11:01 AMexquisite! Ah this one is awesome, I love it. Just catching up on things. What more can be said than this is absolutely great. Spring personified! Joy!! Posted by Kayt on April 17, 2008 12:07 AMReally wonderful. I've never seen an entire field of grape hyacinths before. Posted by Laurie on April 17, 2008 3:11 PMNicely composed. Yes, this is Lockridge Furnace, for everyone who asked. If you're going, go soon. The flowers don't last long. Posted by Kathleen on April 19, 2008 5:44 PMThe flowers alone are great, but the blurred feet running away are absolutely superb! It adds some serious human-factor to this otherwise nature photo. Posted by Brian Auer on April 21, 2008 10:45 PMBeautiful depth of field. Posted by LwS on April 22, 2008 4:52 AMThis blue and green palette is so sumptuous, makes me want to take Gosh, Kathleen, I think I made 2 typos in last message, Soooo nice! You've taken the perfect picture of how spring feels. I love it. Yummy colors. Posted by Amy on April 29, 2008 6:44 PMInteresting use of DoF and it really works. I also like the mixture of static and action. The post processing has really popped the colour too. Posted by mooch on June 3, 2008 8:18 PMBrilliant! Posted by Lud@ on August 3, 2008 7:49 PMSpeak!
