Chincoteague Bay

PHOTOGRAPH INFO

Another photograph from Virginia, this time on the coast within the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge on Assateague Island.

The island is a wonderful place to see many species of migrating birds as well as two herds of wild horses known as "Chincoteague Ponies."

Camera settings and post-processing: Shot with the Canon EOS 5D and the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L lens at 24mm, ISO 250, f/14, 1/250s. Curves adjustments, color balancing.

Thanks for visiting Durham Township!

On this picture Kathleen did toil
Making sunbeams seem quite royal.
Some heavy clouds darken the skies
Below them land and water lies.
The reflection seems almost like tin foil.

Hi,
this picture would have more life if the clouds are in different color not in dull gray. But all in all nice shot. good placement of horizon in the frame.

Given the loss of detail caused by the back-lit foreground, we have assorted dark earth shapes and light on the water....the imagination can play a little.

Kathleen could have been walking along the shoreline...or shooting from her hot air balloon.....or through the windshield of her Piper Cub......or her Learjet.....or..."Ladies and Gentlemen, if your seated on the left side of the plane, you can look carefully just below and to your left to view a grazing herd of migrating Chincoteague Ponies......and a young lady photographing them......and remember, when you fly Durham Air, it's all first class.

Happy closing party!

(Please shoot and share,
for I shan't be there.)

Oh, I will have to show my 8 year old this image. We are reading "Misty of Chincoteague" at the moment. Timely!

Brilliant lighting in this image - fine work.

Absolutely stunning - Such a fantastic capture!

Whilst I love the light shining through the clouds, the reflection/light on the sand is fantastic.

One of my favorite books as a child was "Misty of Chincoteaque". I loved any story that had to do with horses.

We encountered a lot of wild horses in North Carolina in Corolla on the Outer Banks when we would go there. They were surprisingly tame compared to how I thought they would be. Many of them would seek shade in the car ports, under the houses, and elevated decks.

That's so beautiful. Even though rough weather looks to be around the scene is strangely calm. The rays lend to that air of calm.

I was hoping to come to the closing last night, but I have been swamped with work and was with a client all day until nearly 5 o'clock working on a project. There was just no way to get away last night. I hope it went well I know I missed a nice evening.
