Small Rock Breaking the Ice at Lake Nockamixon
PHOTOGRAPH INFO This photo was taken on Monday evening at Lake Nockamixon State Park in Nockamixon Township, about 5 miles from Durham. There's a thin coating of ice on the lake, unfortunately not thick enough for skating, but it's fun to throw stones through the air bubbles. Thank you for visiting Durham Township! --Kathleen Comments
Powrót do znakomitych zdjęć . Another fantastic shot. A perfect timing....
An out of the ordinary photo motif well captured. I like the shot very much. Posted by Arnd on February 28, 2008 2:39 AMGreat capture - Just fantastic! Posted by Ian on February 28, 2008 2:52 AMHi Kathleen, Thanks for sharing Stefano Posted by Stefano on February 28, 2008 3:32 AMI really like it. Did you set your camera at a high fps, or were your reactions so good that you timed it just right? The focus is perfect. Did you preset it? If so, your aim is outstanding. A unique picture that must have been technically challenging. Keep on ...... Posted by Dennis on February 28, 2008 4:05 AMWow!That is a stunning photo, with brilliant composition! Posted by ben weatherhead on February 28, 2008 5:10 AMClouds, liquid and ice....water masquerading in three ways. Great timing and angle. Posted by JPH on February 28, 2008 6:24 AMGreat capture - the composition, the slight reflection of the water splash, the bands of orange, pink and blue -- just lovely! Posted by Betsy Barron on February 28, 2008 7:09 AMWow! Stunning image. Stumbled! Posted by Donncha O Caoimh on February 28, 2008 7:50 AMNice Colors and Horizon is straight and dividing the water and sky perfectly. All in all nice shot. Great timing. Frankly I'm glad your back in Durham from the NY dog show ;o) Posted by Pit Burkhardt on February 28, 2008 9:49 AM水花激起的瞬间,却凝固成一座雕像,在水天之间,真的很美。 Posted by Rad Sun on February 28, 2008 10:06 AMBreathtakingly stunning!!! Posted by corey on February 28, 2008 10:26 AMThat is wicked cool! Very original concept combined with excellent reflexes and composition. Even as an adult, I love throwing rocks through the ice (growing old is mandatory, but growing up is optional), but I never thought of photographing it. You found a way to convey this child-like winter past time in a very artistic way. Posted by Russ on February 28, 2008 1:26 PMOh Wow!!!! That was the first thing I thought and now that I think about it, it is the last thing I thought. Beautiful!!! Posted by Jim Browning on February 28, 2008 3:00 PMKathleen, Rock 'n shot While at a commercial studio, we were asked to shoot a dropped capsule as it hit milk. We Had to catch the image at the instant the milk began to wake outward, yet before the capsule broke the surface tension of the milk so you could see the splash beginning while the capsule was yet fully visible. That shot took several days to complete with trip-timers, relays and strobes. The client was a provider (I am so embarrassed Anyway, Your shot is way better....plus you included a landscape. Thanks! Posted by David Tinnon on February 28, 2008 4:01 PMCan't believe you got the timing just right. Wonderful picture. Posted by hwalk on February 28, 2008 7:29 PMlove the rich colours and the still action on the water. Posted by ian on February 28, 2008 7:49 PMSpectacular!!!! Another amazing shot. It just makes me smile. Thanks.:) Posted by Noreen on February 28, 2008 8:54 PMExtraordinary! How do you do it?!! Posted by Gerald on February 29, 2008 5:59 AMThat is really an impressive photographic achievement. As hard as getting this kind of moment in a controlled studio setting is, I can only imagine how difficult it was to manage in this setting...Awesome photo! Posted by Laurie on February 29, 2008 7:08 AMWow. I've got a new favorite! Posted by Steve B. on February 29, 2008 11:36 AM
Very beautiful shot. Posted by Nina on February 29, 2008 5:14 PMVictoria, Yes, like water ballet. Posted by David Tinnon on February 29, 2008 9:08 PMthe water splashing it's been well focused, very accurate, even we can see an alien shape. Posted by CNC table on March 1, 2008 2:16 PMThey say a photograph is but a moment caught from the flow of time. In this photograph, you show that in a fantastic way. what a beautiful shot! i have been reading (watching?) your photoblog for a long time and these last few months, your photos have been so intriguing and outstanding. keep it up! Posted by cait on March 2, 2008 2:14 PMWhat a fantastic shot! Must have been fun timing that one. Posted by Welchie on March 5, 2008 9:10 AMThis is an awesome picture! PERFECT! Posted by Sandrine on March 11, 2008 9:49 PMDennis and Miguel: Sorry to take so long responding. There wasn't much set-up for this shot - it was pretty spontaneous. There was enough light to shoot at ISO 400 and 1/800s. I pre-set the focus (good guess) and shot several frames. When I looked at the results, I selected the frame that seemed to have the most "energy" or "life" to it. Posted by Kathleen on March 15, 2008 7:40 AMFantastic!!!! Posted by Zsigmondi Andras on March 20, 2008 5:35 AMOMG this is really nice on the timing as well as the sunset. We've all grown so accustomed to "droplet" shots, but the landscape aspect makes this one rise to the top. Posted by picturegrl on March 24, 2008 8:43 PMWOW!!!
