Border Collie

PHOTOGRAPH INFO

Another photo in a series from the Westminster Kennel Club Show at Madison Square Garden in New York City last Monday and Tuesday. I've got two more images from the show after this one - and I'm saving my favorite for last. :)

Camera settings and post-processing: Shot with the Canon EOS 5D and the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L lens at 24mm, ISO 1600, f/3.2, 1/100s. Basic curves adjustment, color balancing.

Thanks for visiting Durham Township!

My thanks to everyone who came to my show opening on Wednesday night!

What a turnout - I'm sorry that I didn't get to speak with everyone but perhaps you'll consider coming back to the closing party on April 2nd :)

Special thanks to those who came from a distance -- especially JPH, who even brought me some amazing cookies! -- and to Cathy Beck, the art instructor at Palisades, for inviting me to participate in the Community Artist Series. It means a great deal to be acknowledged by the people who live and work in Durham Township and the surrounding area.

Thanks again to everyone! The show is up until April 2nd with public hours on Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., or by appointment with the school.

Kathleen, your prints at the show are spectacular! It was so good to see you again and meet some of your other fans.

I love the face on this sweet fella!

"...who ARE these people?...what are THEY staring at?....check the footwear and coiffures around here....looks like a convention of jesters!"

Pup has a point.

I visit your photoblog every day and just love your photos! (I even alerted my readers on my blog about your awesome work!)

Anyway, I'm coming out of lurking mode because I just couldn't resist saying...

YAY!! You got a superb shot of my favorite breed! Thank you!! You did an excellent job capturing his expression! :-p

Aw How sweet.
What a great time at your show with a fun crowd. So nice to meet JPH and his son from Annapolis, Md. who came a great distance, spent the whole day checking out Durham, meeting the locals, viewing the boat that George Washington (?) uses every Christmas to cross the Delaware River, finding out the diner closes at 1pm and then being forced to listen to our stories about Bob Dylan. Ah! those cookies were delicious.

I was sent by a friend to check out your border photo. Beautiful dog!

I have a pup, about 8 mos. old and have lots of photos of him on my blog site. I love borders. Can't wait til you show your favorite pic, that you mentioned above.

Thanks!

I'm just going to say it. You are a FANTASTIC FANTASTIc PHOTGRAPHER!!! But these kennel show pictures are the worst shots you have posted on the site. These don't have that how you say..."How did she get that shot"?, type look to them.

Kathleen,
As truly wonderful and amazing as your Durham Township work is, I've got to say that this dog show subject matter is really not your forte. These are common snapshots comparatively, snatched from a world of artifice and pretension.
But your 'home turf' work seems straight from your soul, and continues to amaze me with every visit to your site. The beauty, subtlety, and nuance captured by your vision is a gift that makes us all wish we lived 'just down the road a piece'.
Follow your heart always, and thank you so much for sharing!

Love the blog, and like the dog portraits - almost all of them show a spark of personality, a nice composition, an interesting contrast. Actually, the border collie one is the only one I don't 'get' - the lens has brought the head so far forward, emphasizing an atypical and somewhat odd expression. The picture seems a bit jarring without insight or particular interest beyond the overall B&W scheme, but that doesn't seem enough compared to the other shots of the show or the blog in general.
