Light Snowfall Above the Delaware River
PHOTOGRAPH INFO This photo was taken Wednesday during a light snowfall. I was standing 20 feet above the river - the tree is hanging over the water because the riverbank has eroded. As I mentioned in my last post, commenter TJS suggested I go for a walk along the Delaware Canal State Park towpath since parts of it have reopened after three "50 year" floods (within 18 months) tore the park completely apart starting with Hurrican Ivan in September 2004. Until that time I had walked the towpath almost every day for several years, so I've sorely missed it. I'm looking forward to the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources $40 million repair project that begins in early 2008. Post-processing: Shot with the Canon EOS 5D Thank you for visiting Durham Township! --Kathleen Comments
Captures the look of much of this season... an achromatic exercise. And keeping the wind toward your back helps keep snow from the camera lens. I've been wanting to shoot down along the local river here, but there are no pathways available to me. Would require parking and hiking down to it, then making my way along it through dense woods, private property, etc. You are very fortunate to have a place you can go for a view like this. Posted by Kim on December 10, 2007 9:07 AMOh wow! What a treat! You do such awesome black and whites! I love when you post one of your black and white images. Inspiring!!! I hope Saturday was fun I really missed out! I do finally feel better today, not 100%, about 90% better though! Posted by Laurie on December 10, 2007 9:13 AMCold, foreboding, stark, powerful! I need a blanket and some cocoa.......but is great how the tree's "dark sides" divide the scene into a group of abstract framings of winter's chilling effects. Thanks for the beautifully bleak look. Posted by TJS on December 11, 2007 12:20 PMI may be older now; I may be tired and I may lean a little and creak a lot. My footing may not be as solid, but I have weathered both high and low tides and seen many things that were "forever" drift by. I am strong; I am patient; I have learned so much and am ready to share my experiences with you. Posted by Willow on December 12, 2007 9:23 PMSpeak!
