Delaware River Fog, 7:30 a.m. (on the dot!)

PHOTOGRAPH INFO

This photo was taken on Thursday morning. The combination of chilly night air and a warm river gave us a beautiful blanket of fog first thing in the morning. By 9:00 a.m. the fog had completely disappeared and we were left with a gorgeous, sunny, late-summer day.

Post-processing: Shot with the Canon EOS 5D and the Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS lens at 130mm, ISO 400, f/13, shutter 1/250s. Curves adjustment and color balancing.

Thank you for visiting Durham Township!

Comments

Yeah! I'm first to comment this time. (that's what happens when you stay up past your bedtime playing with Photoshop).

This is just flat out, take-your-breath-away, jaw-droppingly gorgeous, Kathleen. Everytime I think I have a favorite of yours, you top it. I love those deep shadows, rich greens, and the subtle pink in the fog. This is just stunning and belongs in a gallery. Fantastic work.

Wow, at first glance this looks like somewhere foreign. The African Savannah comes to mind...

Breathtaking, which is an adjective I commonly use when visiting this site.

This is a stunning landscape image - the pinkish hues are fantastic. Lovely.

Very nice foggy landscape. Good details in the shadows, and very good processing. It's difficult to take pictures in the circumstances, but you've hit the nail on the head.

fog - a cloudlike layer of minute water droplets near the surface of the earth, appreciably reducing visibility. Today's science lesson illustrated in a picture. Well done.

Mmmmm...Tasty fog! This is beyond beautiful.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah, tis fair, yet still. Mine soul is restoreth....here where nature's fertilizer hath been truly well-spread, or could it be that Freddy the Spreader hath passth? Oh, sweet mistery (sic.)

Fair is fair, Kathleen, but your place is in the field...or is it just me? The evidence is mounting.

Thanks

After a morning like this one the whole day is perhaps only relaxing after solstice or some kind of crisis – and 9 a.m. is the first hour of the rest of the day.
I agree with Russ, it's impossible to have a long-term favorite among Your photographs.

Kathleen, this is gorgeous! I was driving to work Thursday morning, wishing I had time to stop to photograph the fog (I work in Forks Twp.). And it did turn out to be a perfect late-summer day!

This photograph is a great example of the artist delivering an image that lets us see the ordinary anew. The insistent horizontals -- the dark shadows on the grass along the bottom, the bank of white fog along the top -- emphasize the human vision of the natural work, the human frame on the natural world. This abstraction softens us up to appreciate the rhythmic lines of trees and hills. We are in, just at the point that Kathleen was there. Lucky us.

This is the kind of image that conjures up Durham Township to perfection for me. An idyllic part of an idyllic landscape.

I feel as if my mind is clearing. All of my dark and dreary thoughts giving way to patches of uncertainty and wisps of unrecognizable fears that quickly evaporate as the light of understanding shines brightly across the landscape of my soul, illuminating the path to inner peace.

It seems to me that the real trick here was choosing portrait alignment for this wonderfull landscape.
Could this be what you see from the other side of spring hill?
Any chance that you would share a landscape view?
Knowing what not to include, must be a big part of your artistry even when so many of the visual cues draw attention to what is just beyond the borders. I quess we already know what;s outside the gates...

Two rivers. The lower one restrained by the banks of earth, the corresponding river above is held by unseen forces and is not alway visible. Willow travels on the river above.

bob: This view is not from Spring Hill, although you can see some of Spring Hill Road in the shot.

Later in the week I'll post a horizontal image that was taken right next to this one.

To the right are more planted fields, to the left is a farm with a silo, outbuildings, barn and farmhouse.

I've taken many photos here over the years and it's a gorgeous spot no matter how you slice it. :)

Absolutely beautiful shot. The fact that you were able to capture so many layers of content is amazing, but they are all extremely sharp as well. Well done!
