Broadleaf Arrowhead (Sagittaria latifolia)
PHOTOGRAPH INFO This photo was taken on Saturday evening underneath a bridge in Tinicum Creek. Broadleaf Arrowhead is also known as Duck Potato. It's found in wetlands and is considered invasive in parts of North America. The plant produces edible tubers, similar in taste to potatoes or chestnuts. These were a major source of food for Native Americans. This is a wonderful image. I like how the plant is separated very well from it's background, yet you can still see the light beneath the bridge to give it a sense of place and location. Exceedingly well done. Posted by Russ on July 16, 2007 1:00 AMThis is a wonderful image. I like how you separated the plant from its background, yet I can still see the light coming from beneath the bridge and just make out the creek itself. That effect gives it a wonderful sense of place and location. Exceedingly well done. Posted by Russ on July 16, 2007 1:03 AMThoughtful positioning and good use of light and one of my favorite colors. Posted by JPH on July 16, 2007 5:08 AMThe framing with the light and arch of the bridge is wonderful. Posted by Laurie on July 16, 2007 8:46 AMAbsolutely Beautiful, excellent photo as always. Posted by Darren (Tech-D) on July 16, 2007 8:54 AMI'm enjoying the ambient light here, it almost looks artificial what with the blue glow of the leaves. Oh I get it. The lighted arc in the background is the other side of the bridge. You sure are making some mighty fine images of invasive plants lately. Sweet vision of light and lack there of here. Posted by Marie on July 16, 2007 7:25 PMThe sky is falling, and settling on the leaves. A beautiful image, reminiscent of several paintings by Thomas Edwin Mostyn. He painted in the 20s and 30s which looks about right for this scene. The view framed by the bridge is similar to "The Garden of the Castle." Not a bad title here either. Ironic follow-up so soon after the "pig" shot, but four spades beats three pigs. 4W? Between bridge trolls and "skeeters" you better watch out young lady! Posted by david tinnon on July 16, 2007 10:08 PMHere is Mother Nature in her most elemental form. Her sensuality could not be more apparent. We see, no we feel, this progression. Travel past the purples of passion to the greens of productivity and into the pale light of understanding. The oneness of nature and the oneness of woman are before you. Cherish them both as they are the keys to your soul. Lightning makes this photo wonderful. Nice. Posted by Marius M on July 17, 2007 4:17 AMIt's been too long since I stopped by and I've just spent a most enjoyable time catching up. Still loving every minute of time spent here and this picture sums up why: an everyday subject recorded in a delightful and sumptuous way. Beautiful composition and great lighting in the background!
