Pohatcong Mercantile Window

PHOTOGRAPH INFO

This photo was taken a couple of weeks ago at what is now known as the Pohatcong Mercantile. It was a very old, abandoned general store but it's being restored by a group of local folks who intend to open it again, complete with soda fountain, ice cream and sundry items. The goal is to make it into a community gathering place.

As the store is renovated, I'll be posting shots of its progress, both interior and exterior, and telling more of the Pohatcong Mercantile's story. It's a classic American tale. :)

Post-processing: Shot with the Canon EOS 5D and the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L lens at 32mm, ISO 100, f/5, shutter 1/500s. Slight crop, curves adjustments and color balancing.

Thank you for visiting Durham Township!

Wow, I really love this! The textures, color, and light are all brilliant. But, what really makes the shot for me is the shadow of the fence on the glass of the window, and how it affects the transparency of the glass. Super shot!

trading places

the bar now outside

and we are in the dark

the walls crumble

ancient glass breaks the sun's glaze

no sign of relief here

only the light in this window is new

click

now by the light, all is saved

and she escapes with the file

OK, Kathleen, how many jokes are in the Pohatcong Mercantile Basement Window Poem? And thanks for the "beautiful" view.

Beautiful light. I love the shadows on the dirty window pane, along with the light coming through the window falling on the sill. Quite a calming photo.

It's often difficult to capture both outside and inside when there's light streaming in through the window. You did a great job, and it adds a lot to the image. Looking forward to the rest of this series!

There is something haunting about this image. The light is warm and wonderful.

I think this place will be a real treasure once again.

This post reminded me of the General Store that my Aunt used to go to. I think the name was "Delrumples" or something like that. It was that typical old fashioned General Store that sold everything from sacks of flour to sacks of grass seed.

So lovely. Have been wondering what was happening with this building. It will be a nice addition to the area.
