Carpentersville Tree
PHOTOGRAPH INFO Another photo from last Friday in Carpentersville, New Jersey, about ten minutes from Durham Township. Post-processing: Shot with the Canon EOS 5D Thank you for visiting Durham Township! -- Kathleen Comments
The colors are beautiful, the composition super, an I think this just might be the perfect "lone tree in a field" shot. Posted by Laurie on May 22, 2007 7:51 AMWhat a great shot. Fantastic colors, great composition. You're really leading the eye. Posted by keith on May 22, 2007 8:52 AMThe rich tones of the earth contrast with the green of the emerging crop, and of course the lines in the soil lead the eye to what is beyond. Too bad the sky was so overcast. However, another terrific photo. Nice colors and composition. My first impression was that the tree and horizon line are a little too much in the center of the frame for my taste. I'd have maybe included a little more foreground so the tree would be more in the top third of the frame, but then you may lose the little spot of blue sky, which I think adds a lot to the image overall. As always, you do nice work. I love the lighting in this shot. Posted by Alice on May 22, 2007 9:56 AMYou couldn't ask for better leading lines in a photo. Outstanding! That single tree really looks great. I agree with Alice, if you crop that little patch of blue sky out of the top, it would minimize the contrast in the sky and take away from the image (I actually held a piece of paper up to my screen to look at the difference..LOL). I think that little patch of blue sky adds more impact to the photo than moving the horizon line north. Posted by Russ on May 22, 2007 10:53 AMWonderful! I love pictures of trees--they are so valiant and steadfast. Posted by RD on May 22, 2007 12:03 PMGreat image, great composition! Posted by Paulo Jorge Oliveira on May 22, 2007 12:36 PMBeautiful colors. Excellent shot! Posted by wardy on May 22, 2007 2:19 PMVery powerful image, lovely shot! Posted by Justin on May 22, 2007 7:20 PMLeaf it to Kathleen not to go out on a limb and branch out with yet another good shot with undulating rows, unusual light and unique composition. Posted by JPH on May 22, 2007 8:23 PMAn endless vigil, kept by a single sentinel, standing at the edge of a pen-stripped desert of sienna and olive. All kith and kin await in the distance, but the task unfinished, the sentinel remains.....guarding the borders between the surreal, the abstract,.....and Carpentersville. Well I guess I'm up to about 5K in the thank you department, shoot on young lady! P.S. Out shooting on the New York Canal this morning and ran across an abandoned sofa......tempted to send you a competitive "abandoned residential upholstery" image...... Posted by david tinnon on May 22, 2007 9:14 PMLone trees always present a sense of dominance. Once again, this land makes for perfect leading lines. I wish there wasn't the slight break in the clouds in the top right, but then there wouldn't be the diverse lighting. Posted by Michael George on May 22, 2007 11:56 PMI won't mince words here. This is a phenomenal piece of work. Congratulations. Posted by Tom K. on May 23, 2007 2:17 AMGreat leading lines...tremendous shot. Posted by Angry Buddha on May 23, 2007 11:27 AMI love the 'solitary tree' landscape shots. Nicely done. Posted by mikelangelo on May 23, 2007 12:19 PMThe Sentinel stands alone, watching her charges as they begin their lives in almost perfect order. SHe has seen this many times before as her silent vigil has lasted for many seasons. WIll they survive long enough to fulfill their intended purpose ? Not all of them but many shall. There is safety in numbers. They have no where to hide except behind each other. The bones of their predecessors lie in the furrows. They can not march in almost perfect military order into the woodlands beyond. They have a different task to perform. Does the sky foretell of danger? Depends on your point of view. There is a blue sky visible in certain places as well as the life giving or life stealing sun trying to peak through. But for now, there is safety under the clouds as the ground is dry and there is a hope of rain. And the Sentinel? She is watching. I'm not worthy of critiquing, just an admirer of your work. Beautiful. Posted by melody on May 27, 2007 10:11 PMit`s my hometown as,you are best..... Posted by took on May 28, 2007 4:39 AMHey Kathleen!
