Farm with Old Sofa

PHOTOGRAPH INFO

This was taken yesterday. The old sofa felt like part of the landscape with its colors and patterns and curvilinear shapes. If it could only talk...

Post-processing: Shot with the Canon EOS 5D and the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L lens at 38mm, ISO 200, shutter speed 1/2500s, aperture f/2.8. Curves adjustment, color balancing for tone.

Thank you for visiting Durham Township!

Now that's one ugly sofa. If it were mine, I'd be horrified if it started talking! This is a very interesting composition with the precarious angle of the sofa, the road off on the right, and the farm in the background.

One man's junk is another woman's....picture. (I think I saw this same sofa available on ebay last week)

So that's where my old sofa ended up! :-p

Well you turned it into a wonderful picture.

Fabulous shot, made me pop up in my chair. Of course the detail, colours, and composition could all be spoken of in high regard, but this time, it's the story that draws me in. I'm curious about how this old sofa's found its way to where it now sits. Great shot!

Just last week during my English classes we were describing people's qualities. In one of the exercises, we had to decide how a person who 'can turn a pile of rubbish into a work of art' would be called. 'Creative' seems too obvious now that I know it should have been 'Kathleen Connally'. :)

So many of your images show Durham Township in a positive light, so seeing this arrive on screen was something of an unpleasant surprise. Whenever I see this sort of thing I'm shocked at just how little respect some people have for the environment, the landscape, and their neighbours.

What's particularly interesting about the photo is what a different image - and message - you'd have delivered if you'd taken a similar view just 20' further along the road.

I agree with Mike's comment. It's hideous. I did a double take when I saw this. The lower half of the picture looks just like the spare land at the end of my street - different week, different pile of rubbish.

It's certainly a change to the lean, open and easy on the eye photos you normally show us.

Excellently composed (and partially decomposed!) One of those shots that reveal more about your eye than about the subject. (But then all of your shots tell us....)

My wife brought home a similar love seat once. Better pillows but the legs were gone.....would it be too much trouble to check? And how about a swatch from that carpet, looks pretty good, but I can't make out the color.

(Perhaps the twin brother of the famous chef could take this load to the dump, thereby restoring balance to the cosmos.)

Thank you Kathleen for balancing the cosmos in your own way--and sharing (even more balance.)

This is a startling juxtaposition of trash posed against a pastoral background. You have captured many interesting faces in your photos. I wonder what the face of the person who soiled the land would look like.---At any rate, this is a terrific photo.

what a mess !

digging this. messes often make better photos than pretty things. And I love that sofa fabric... it's so gaudy in a really great way.
