March Ice, Sunset
PHOTOGRAPH INFO This photograph was taken last night at 7 p.m. (I love Daylight Savings Time!) The yellow stuff in the rows are oats which were planted last fall to hold the soil for a spring crop of timothy (hay for horses). We had a rather surprising eight inches of snow & sleet on Friday -- most of it sleet. Shoveling the walkways was insanely exhausting! Each shovel-ful weighed about 20 pounds, no exaggeration. Usually we've seen the end of winter storms by now, but the winter of 2006-7 has been very unusual. Post-processing: Shot with the Canon EOS 5D Thank you for visiting Durham Township! --Kathleen Comments
i love your photoblog! Posted by jesse on March 20, 2007 3:54 AMGreat return from the dogs and their owners! Posted by Tomasz on March 20, 2007 5:28 AMWe got off lucky with only about 3-4 inches of the sleet/snow/ice, which was good considering that our driveway and walks are all stone right now and it's impossible to shovel them. This is really pretty the way the ice picks up a blue hue from the sky and the way the sunlight just kisses a few of the oats here and there. Perfect angle of camera and sun. Posted by Laurie on March 20, 2007 5:53 AMGood photo! (and you avoided getting your shadow in the picture) Posted by JPH on March 20, 2007 6:32 AMThen again, with a closer look, maybe you didn't avoid getting your shadow in the shot. Posted by JPH on March 20, 2007 6:42 AMBeautiful as always. The stubble looks like nuggets of gold. Posted by Robert on March 20, 2007 6:42 AMDamn, that's gorgeous. Posted by Joe on March 20, 2007 7:19 AMI love the warmness of the sun skipping along the ground. Posted by Angry Buddha on March 20, 2007 8:57 AMThe light on the oats is incredible, they're on fire, amazing capture! Posted by Alex on March 20, 2007 10:55 AMYes,Yes,Yes,.....1,000x Thank you. (At a performance of Handel's Messiah in Ireland, A local "actress" was employeed to perform a solo which was so moving that the intire crowd stood and cheered. A priest then stood and pronounced "for this performance child, all your sins are forgiven.") I'm no priest, but if........ Posted by david tinnon on March 20, 2007 11:26 AMAbsolutely beautiful morning light! The clouds and sky add to the calmness of the snow and solitude. Posted by Ryan Rahn on March 20, 2007 12:03 PMI drive by fields like this every day, and they've never looked this lovely. Posted by Ruth on March 20, 2007 12:27 PMFantastic light and great perspective (as ever!) Posted by David H-W on March 20, 2007 12:53 PMThe wide angles are what really make these shots. By far my fav time of the day. Lovely colours in both the clouds and sky. I too love daylight savings, alas it does not exist here...! Posted by ROB on March 20, 2007 10:32 PMSince my move to Cape Town all I have seen is blue skies and sun! Love this image, great work Kathleen. Posted by Craig on March 21, 2007 7:41 AMwow, it looks like the field is glowing. Very nice (as always)! Posted by jonas on March 21, 2007 11:37 AMBeautiful landscape and a great perspective! Posted by Wolfgang on March 21, 2007 2:40 PMI just love visiting here, though I don't often comment. Such beauty, always. Posted by melody on March 21, 2007 4:01 PMI love how oats softly sink into this cold surface. So peaceful and tranquil, your shots are better than psychotherapy. And it's funny that the oaks look just like a bigger version of some kind of strange edible flowers that my friend once gave me. As usually, your shot evokes thousands of various associations. Regards. Posted by Marta on March 21, 2007 4:23 PMVery poetic resonance of that movie Starship Troopers... I had to look closer, cuz I thought this was a landscape of alien insects! Very beautiful. Posted by Chris on March 21, 2007 6:49 PMDear Victoria, I'll take a great sky (like this one) over a great wine any day...but then a great wine under a great sky could be good too....and thank goodness Kathleen shares her "wine" with so many of us!
I really enjoy the perspective and angle on this image... So glad to be out of Chicago I am; we down here in the Southwest (NM) have been enduring temperatures in the 70's all week. Will have to send some your way. Posted by Solaria on March 21, 2007 11:16 PMStunning shot Kathleen, the light is just amazing. Phil Posted by [t e r r o r k i t t e n] on March 24, 2007 7:24 PMI'll be original here and comment on how wonderful the light is and the beautiful colouring in this shots too! ;) You never stop amazing me. Thanks for the continued sharing and inspiration of your work. Posted by Daniel Seguin on April 1, 2007 1:52 PMthree cheers for you ... again ! Posted by tristan forward on April 6, 2007 7:43 AMYou know the "Portrait of Dorian Gray" right? Well I return again to this image, and as unbelievable as it may seen, these clouds are continuing to improve. So how does something that was perfectly awsume two months ago appear to have become "more perfectly awsume?" This is a tough one......I'll be back.....got to solve this.... Posted by david tinnon on April 28, 2007 4:28 AMAwesome photos! Thank you for sharing them. Posted by Ted on May 7, 2007 10:11 AMSpeak!
