The Way Home (Windshield)

PHOTOGRAPH INFO

Another one of those crazy windshield (windscreen) shots that I took on my way home from running errands today.

Post-processing: Shot with the Canon EOS 5D and the Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L with circular polarizing filter at 17mm, ISO 400, 1/400s at f/10. Curves adjustments for contrast and saturation, color balancing for tone (tough to do with that tinted auto glass).

Thank you for visiting Durham Township!

Now that's the way to use the sunlight through the clouds. Another excellent shot Kathleen.

Kathlee, I really enjoy the breaktrough of the sun in here . The colour is very powerful on the street and in the clouds on the horizon .. Oh my english is bad ...

Wow. I guess you're camera's picked up your sense of composition over time, if you're not looking through the viewfinder! Beautiful photograph.

Lovely delicate capture of the light - looks fantastic at the larger size

I like the tilt of the first pole. It adds an unique dimension to your fine shot.

Great composition once again.

The light here is just beautiful, it really conveys the power/beauty of nature.

Fantastic shot 'n fantastic colours. Hard to take my eyes off it.

Nothing like the view close to home. Quite impressive.

Posted by Noreen on February 28, 2007 10:27 AM

Wow, is that telephone pole really leaning that much or is it just an illusion...?

Either way, amazing photo!

Looks safe too!

The Cloud Team did an amazing job as did the lighting and horizon layout crews. However the people over in the Post and Pole Department could use a plum bob.

Actually, it's those weird angles that add a bizarre humor to the beauty of the scene.

(and stop frustating the crap out of everbody by saying stuff like "I was just driving along and poped this one off through the windshield!--say "i waited six hours in the road at minus 12 degrees with a wind chill, just till the light was perfect and...)

Great highway shot, even if it only took a second, so thank you #144

Kathleen, this photo is fantastic. My favorite from the last few months. Been visiting almost everyday but have been too lazy to comment. However, with this photograph I couldn't resist. It's got you all over it.

Amazing job.

I love this shot, the light is beautiful and the bizarre angle of the pole just serves to lead your eye back to those amazing sunrays and the gorgeous light, good catch!

You could make a weed look like an orchid. Your photography is fantastic. (What--no bug splatter on the windshield in Durham Township?)

Thanks, everyone. I appreciate all the opinions and questions!

gonzo gallery: I actually looked through the viewfinder on this one, unlike the one of the smoking chimney a couple weeks back where the car was moving. This time I pulled over slightly and put my flashers on. :)

Jordan Meeter & Miklos: The pole is tilted but the curve of the windshield + the super-wide angle lens make it look crazier than it is. I liked the illusion created by the two layers of glass and factored it into the composition.

david Tinnon: Hahahahaha! You truly get me belly-laughing over here. I dunno what to say except thank you #144 (140 of them were very quiet thank-yous) for your extremely kind and hilarious attention. :) Makes my day.

Photo Buffet: Wow, Bonnie, you are so nice, thank you. There are no bugs here in February. :) But I'd probably enjoy trying a bug-splatter filter anyway! I'll come back to this spot in August.

Wonderful shot Kathleen; as always :-)

I too am envious of your nice clean windscreen; it was bucketing monsoonal rain here the other day, and my windscreen shot reminds me of Tina Turner... very "Steamy Windows" ish!

Best wishes,

Wow! Great shot. Very dramatic.

Rocking shot, the 17-40mm frustrates me on the 5D with its distortion sometimes, but here it just adds that extra oomph to the image. And wow that is some serious light rays.

wonderfully moody shot. no idea about the windshield till you mentioned it
