PHOTOGRAPH INFO

This photo was taken at the famous McGlinchey's bar in downtown Philadelphia, where I attended a meetup with the Philadelphia Area Photobloggers on Friday night. We get together every few months and it's always a great time.

Theresa was a customer at the bar and Jorj Bauer managed to convince Theresa and her boyfriend, Oliver, to let us photograph them for awhile. They were extremely accomodating! So this is an unposed shot, one of many I took of Theresa over a 30 minute period.

Post-processing: Shot with the Canon EOS 5D and the Canon 85mm f/1.2L lens at f/1.2, 1/30s, ISO 640. Curves adjustments for contrast and saturation, color balancing for tone.

Well, this is warm, intense, intimate. I like the red coming out from the window and in her hair. Kathleen, I like the style you developed through the years on how you process your portraits.

This is a striking portrait Kathleen, the light and composition play together wonderfully, and the subject seems both content and detached at the same time. I'm totally down for the road trip!

I think we were all really lucky that these two played along as well as they did - it was a fantastic opportunity for some really interesting work, and it's very cool to see how three people nearly shoulder to shoulder can come away with such dramatically different interpretations of the same scene.

I have no idea how you captured that great light on her face, but what really makes it for me is the hair light. awesome!

Geoff: That was great, wasn't it? Jorj is a good model scout. :) The light on Theresa's face is ambient light from the room - the aperture was at f/1.2! (Let me know when you get the $1100 piece-a-glass. :)

Your compositions consistently add interest to your portraits and you have a great balance going here. The tones in the window and the hair are terrific.
