Railroad Bridge Remains on Cooks Creek
PHOTOGRAPH INFO This photograph was taken yesterday around 3:30 p.m. as the sun started disappearing behind some trees. Someone once told me, but I don't recall the name of the railroad line that used to use this bridge in the early 1900s -- hopefully someone out there will remind me. :) You can see the remains of the bridge from Rattlesnake Road in Durham Township. Post-processing: Shot with the Canon EOS 5D ______________ NOTE: Apparently A Walk Through Durham Township has been nominated in the 2006 Weblog Awards for "Best Photo Blog." Thanks to whomever nominated -- I didn't even realize it was going on! Check out the other nominated blogs -- great stuff there, especially from my friends Joe, Sam, David and Travis. Vote here if you like: 2006 Weblog Awards. Thank you for visiting Durham Township! --Kathleen Comments
Beautiful, beautiful and beautiful. Posted by Victor on December 10, 2006 10:00 AMCongrats, it's a well deserved nomination. This is a beautiful composition Kathleen. The kind of place to follow the seasons in pictures. I hope you get this same shot with snow on the ground too. Posted by Laurie on December 10, 2006 10:58 AMWonderful color, I love the gold. Very warm. Congrats on the nomination! Posted by Steve on December 10, 2006 11:36 AMBeautiful reflections in this Kathleen - lovely nature shot. Posted by Craig on December 10, 2006 12:34 PMYou got my vote. I love your blog and this is another great photograph. Posted by Justin on December 10, 2006 2:01 PMAnother great reflection shot Posted by Angry Buddha on December 10, 2006 2:14 PMTena koe ehoa The name of the railroad line was Quakertown and Eastern. There are a few books in the Riegelsville library that do give more history on this railroad line. The location of this photo is one of my favorite places. I will drag my husband and my dogs there during a hot summer day to enjoy the serenity and to cool down. More history found on the web: http://www.livingplaces.com/PA/Bucks_County/Quakertown_Borough.html A 12-station railroad (first named the Quakertown and Eastern RR) operated between Quakertown and Rieglesville from 1896 to 1936. Intermediate station stops/names included: Richlandtown, Pullen, Pleasant Valley, Slifer, Witte, Springtown, Durham, Furnace Junction, and Durham Furnace. God, I miss outdoors... Posted by Marta, Poland on December 11, 2006 8:47 AMThe light in this shot is wonderful. You captured it at the exact moment. The composition brings all the elements together. Posted by Harry on December 11, 2006 8:47 AMWell, I'm a sucker for refelections, and this is a nice one! Love the blue, love the orange! Posted by javga on December 12, 2006 3:42 AMDee: Thank you so much for the information! I appreciate you taking the time to set the record straight. Posted by Kathleen on December 12, 2006 9:27 AMCool afternoon. Warm light. Smooth water over the rocky stream bed. The reflections. The remains of the bridge, the remains of the day. Some images suggest a story or a state of mind. This image suggests a song or a poem.......(did I say "poem?").....well there's Dylan's "Lay Down Your Weary Tune." Somthing about "the river's mirror" and the moan of the wind through the bare limbs "...like a banjo moan." But instead, i tunes brings me Nora Jones who says, "she don't miss me at all!" Oh Well. Thank you Dee for adding historical dimension to the stone and thank you again Kathleen for shareing the way you see Durham Township.
