The Mason and Dixon Lines
PHOTOGRAPH INFO This photograph was taken on Friday afternoon at a local farm where this trailer is parked. The whole scene caught my eye -- the ZAP of red against the blue sky, the golden drying soybeans, the green grass in the foreground, the orange trees on the distant horizon -- and of course, that fascinating graphic. The farmer who owns the trailer bought it at an auction in Allentown a number of years ago and uses it for storage purposes. He likes the graphic, too. I did a little research and The Mason and Dixon Lines trucking company is still in business today. They operate out of Warren, Michigan. The company is named after the Mason-Dixon Line which historically (and culturally) divides the northern US from the southern US. I grew up within three miles of the line. Its significance - and its effect on people's sense of place and what they stood for - was quietly but profoundly noticeable. It's an interesting twist that the trucking company uses the motto "Now, Joining the North and South." Post-processing: Shot with the Canon EOS 5D Thank you for visiting Durham Township! --Kathleen Comments
It is a wonderful scene indeed. There is something so magical about the colors and light this time of year, and you are a master at capturing that magic. Posted by Laurie on November 5, 2006 7:27 AMAbsolutely *gorgeous* colors. Today is such a grey day here (Brooklyn), I'm going to live vicariously through your website for a little while.
