Cows, Trees, Fog

PHOTOGRAPH INFO

These photographs were taken a week or so ago during an early, quiet, foggy morning at the Thaler dairy farm.

Post-processing: Shot with the Canon EOS 5D and the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L lens at various focal lengths, ISO 400, shutter speed 1/125s and aperture f/6.3. Converted RAW files to monochrome using the gradient tool, curves adjustments for contrast, color balancing for tone.

Thank you for visiting Durham Township!

A beautiful serious, very atmospheric. I'm hoping for many of these foggy fall mornings in the weeks to come.

Great series, Kathleen. I really like the second one... So peaceful and beautiful. Great tone and mood throughout. Well done.

Kathleen, these are some of the most beautiful photographs of yours that I have seen in a while. They're always good, yes, but the quiet of the moment took my breath away and yet the whimsicality (I know that's not a word) of the cow made me smile simultaneously. I especially like III, you can almost hear her (huh? hey now!) and IV, she reminds me of my cat. Well done!

Superb. Isn't fog wonderful? Mist and fog will never let you down.

These are wonderful images. III is my favorite. I love the way the cow is looking at you. Makes me wonder what she is thinking.

Nicely done. Images 1 & 3 seem to have the most impact for me.

Cows are fast becoming one of my favourtie subjects, they just seem to always look interesting. The atmosphere in these shots is incredible. Lovely work Kathleen.

That's just what I've been waiting for: fog in Durham Township. This Autumn is going to be tasty. :)

Aren't fog shots the best? Great pictures.

These are really nice -- like the B&W you've done and the somber mood it conveys.

Very nice. I recently got some shots of a morning fog here in NC, but mine were sun tinted, so I used color, but I think the black and white is nice too, especially with the cows.

Posted by Vickie on October 1, 2006 9:46 PM

Cool. Love the color (or lack thereof).

Misty cows! Very evocative of a wistful mood. I like the composition of the third one best.

Jerseys in the Mist? B&W cows--B&W film......milk it.

Cow-print #4 and Cow-print #1 make a perfect composition lesson. (Leaving no doubt that Kathleen Connally has herd of composition)

thank you x 4

Wow I love them all, just great with the fog cleaning up the backgrounds.

Holy cow. Love the atmosphere the fog creates. As always, great post processing.

My favorite is the third...Just has the right blance to me. The cow is focus, but the fog almost makes the trees a watermark on the image. Plus, the nonsaturation is pretty nice.

Love the cows! Started counting em' when i was a kid and just think they are cool. Is it always that foggy where you live? We don't get very much fog in atlanta (thank god). Keep up the good work though. My daughter and I love to see your daily photos.

Couldn't resist to comment: absolutely fine shots, can't choose the better -- maybe the last one, with the leaves in the foreground is less powerful -- it lacks flatness, which here is a great feature (#$!!$# to comment a picture in a foreign language is always hard!)
