Hunterdon County 4-H & Agricultural Fair

PHOTOGRAPH INFO

These photographs were taken this week at the Hunterdon County 4-H & Agricultural Fair in Ringoes, New Jersey. Hunterdon County is directly across the Delaware River from Bucks County. It's still a fairly rural area although development is becoming more rampant.

This is a very, very popular fair, and like the Grange Fair in Bucks County, brings the local agricultural community together.

Post-processing: Shot with the Canon EOS 5D and the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L lens, or the Canon 85mm f/1.2L lens , or the Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L lens as follows:

1) 85mm, ISO 1600, shutter speed 1/100s and aperture f/4.5.
2) 27mm, ISO 3200, shutter speed 1/400s and aperture f/2.8.
3) 63mm, ISO 3200, shutter speed 1/200s and aperture f/2.8.
4) 54mm, ISO 3200, shutter speed 1/250s and aperture f/4.5.
5) 48mm, ISO 3200, shutter speed 1/125s and aperture f/7.1.
6) 34mm, ISO 3200, shutter speed 1/100s and aperture f/4.5.
7) 24mm, ISO 3200, shutter speed 1/800s and aperture f/2.8.
8) 85mm, ISO 3200, shutter speed 1/1250s and aperture f/1.2.
9) 17mm, ISO 3200, shutter speed 1/40s and aperture f/8.

Converted the RAW files to monochrome using the gradient map, basic curves adjustment, slight color balancing for tone.

Thank you for visiting Durham Township!

Wonderful series. My favorites are 1 & 8 and the rest are just wonderful as well.

Well I get to see what I missed. I had planned on trying to get there this week but it just wasn't to be, too many other things got in the way. Oh well, maybe next year.

See you tonight!

That looks like one heck of a fair with enough to see and do for the whole family. I miss a good county fair like that. Living in a fishing community now, our county fair here really doesn't offer much. My favorite pic would be the Sold Chicks.

State Fair fotos are always full of human interest. All are fun to see!

Well, this time the black & white photographs definitely don’t bring sadness. I especially love the "Vegetable Bed" and the "Stripes" photos; the conception of either the objects or composition of those is interesting and funny. The shade in "Sold Chicks" appeals to me as well.

I feel as if I've just read a short story about the fair. Thank you, the shots are wonderful.

i love the goats ;o) a real snapshot - simply great!

I find the first image very interesting. You can see that the positioning of the two goats signifies the sacred feminine...which you can read more about in my new novel "The DaVinci Goat". All the images are top-notch, as usual, Kathleen:)

Good series. It is incredible that these shots are at 3200 ISO. Do you use any noise reduction software?

Posted by Joe Lencioni on August 27, 2006 2:35 PM

Joe: No noise reduction on any of these. The 5D rocks.

Jeeez your shots here are incredible. I love the sold chicks one, it feels really moody like B&W movies from Jim Jarmush. Great texture work in some of those. Thanks for sharing your work every day.

Great shots, I love all the different textures and patina on the paint ball targets.
