Hummingbird Feeder

PHOTOGRAPH INFO

This photograph was taken late yesterday afternoon, hence the crazy shadow on the wall behind the feeder. I wish I'd had more time to set this up properly (I'd have used a faster ISO and shutter), but perhaps the spontaneity is the better part of this shot.

I'm back from holiday so I'll try to catch up on my posts in the next couple of days.

Post-processing: Shot with the Canon EOS 5D and the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 lens with B+W UV Haze Filter at 285mm, ISO 125, shutter speed 1/400s and aperture f/8. Converted RAW file to monochrome using the gradient map; basic curves adjustments and color balancing for tone.

Thank you for visiting Durham Township!

I think the blur in the wings in good. I rather like the shadow.

Welcome back! Hope it was great!

Hummingbirds are so tough to catch! This is really great and I also like the shadow. So those hummingbird feeders really do work!

I love the shadow!

well captured!

Not sure whether this is what your after but its slightly out of focus, while the shadow is crisp.

Not too sure if that really works for me, so I have to agree with you on cranking up the ISO, shutter, and would probably have to throw in stepping down a little too...

nice tones tho ;)

Isee that you have changed what you photograph and your photos have become less impressive since you are now relying on your photo skills rather than your PS skills but in truth i prefer it this way there is more honesty in it

beautiful... the shadow larger that actual object is... perfect, like another world which moves to the first plane, looking a bit... dreamlike, unreal or surreal.... and the explanation - the object itself doesn't take that dream away completely, does not solve everything, it still stays in that....mysterious mood

i like it so much

You captured the moment just right. My compliments for this one.

the B&W heightens the surreality...good job!

Welcome back, Kathleen. I'm not too fond of this image. I love the colours of hummingbirds and you've taken them away! It's almost as depressing as Pleasantville.

Nicely done, refreshingly different from the typical hummingbird photo. I like how you've caught one bird perched while the other is in flight.

awesome ... i love the choice to go for B&W

Pretty cool, I like how the sharp shadow and b/w make it appear to be a night shot. Noir Hummingbirds!

This is really great. I love hummingbirds and this one is different. The silhouette effect is wonderful. Thanks for sharing.
