Hummingbird Feeder
PHOTOGRAPH INFO This photograph was taken late yesterday afternoon, hence the crazy shadow on the wall behind the feeder. I wish I'd had more time to set this up properly (I'd have used a faster ISO and shutter), but perhaps the spontaneity is the better part of this shot. I'm back from holiday so I'll try to catch up on my posts in the next couple of days. Post-processing: Shot with the Canon EOS 5D Thank you for visiting Durham Township! --Kathleen Comments
I think the blur in the wings in good. I rather like the shadow. Posted by Ted on August 12, 2006 12:37 PMWelcome back! Hope it was great! Hummingbirds are so tough to catch! This is really great and I also like the shadow. So those hummingbird feeders really do work! Posted by Laurie on August 12, 2006 1:29 PMlove it! Posted by alan on August 12, 2006 5:16 PMI love the shadow! Posted by laanba on August 12, 2006 6:38 PMwell captured! Not sure whether this is what your after but its slightly out of focus, while the shadow is crisp. Not too sure if that really works for me, so I have to agree with you on cranking up the ISO, shutter, and would probably have to throw in stepping down a little too... nice tones tho ;) Posted by JD on August 13, 2006 7:31 AMI really like how you captured the shadow & a nice choice with the B&W tones! cheers :) Posted by david kleinert on August 13, 2006 10:02 AMbeautifully surreal shot kathleen Posted by Al on August 13, 2006 11:41 AMIsee that you have changed what you photograph and your photos have become less impressive since you are now relying on your photo skills rather than your PS skills but in truth i prefer it this way there is more honesty in it Posted by damien on August 13, 2006 1:10 PMbeautiful... the shadow larger that actual object is... perfect, like another world which moves to the first plane, looking a bit... dreamlike, unreal or surreal.... and the explanation - the object itself doesn't take that dream away completely, does not solve everything, it still stays in that....mysterious mood i like it so much Posted by Lama on August 13, 2006 3:26 PMYou captured the moment just right. My compliments for this one. Posted by javga on August 13, 2006 6:31 PMthe B&W heightens the surreality...good job! Posted by otilius on August 13, 2006 6:56 PMWelcome back, Kathleen. I'm not too fond of this image. I love the colours of hummingbirds and you've taken them away! It's almost as depressing as Pleasantville. Posted by CrankPhoto on August 13, 2006 9:32 PMNicely done, refreshingly different from the typical hummingbird photo. I like how you've caught one bird perched while the other is in flight. Posted by Steve W on August 14, 2006 8:37 AMawesome ... i love the choice to go for B&W Posted by milo on August 14, 2006 2:52 PMPretty cool, I like how the sharp shadow and b/w make it appear to be a night shot. Noir Hummingbirds! Posted by Jeff G on August 15, 2006 2:39 PMThis is just fantastic Kathleen. Love the shadow and the wall texture. Posted by Tom B on August 15, 2006 11:55 PMThis is really great. I love hummingbirds and this one is different. The silhouette effect is wonderful. Thanks for sharing.
