Balloon 84
PHOTOGRAPH INFO A little break from the 'Flour Portrait Project' today but it'll be back with a vengeance soon enough. :) This photograph was taken on Saturday morning at a hot air balloon festival in Reddington, New Jersey, a 40 minute ride from Durham. About 100 balloons take off between 6:30 and 7:30 a.m. and it's quite a sight. Probably worth looking at the larger version of this for the detail. Post-processing: Shot with the Canon EOS 5D Thank you for visiting Durham Township! --Kathleen Comments
Impressive shot - fabulous colours and a great crop/composition Posted by LwS on August 1, 2006 3:45 AMI find this kind of shot with parachutes and baloons amazing, I wonder if the red colors shouldn't be saturated more? Posted by Andre on August 1, 2006 4:07 AMLove it - Really like the way it fills the entire frame! Posted by Ian on August 1, 2006 4:51 AMLovely...The red is perfect, and it seems as if red is pretty tough sometimes. I like how you got the "crew" member in the shot, it really helps to show the scale of these balloons. Posted by Laurie on August 1, 2006 6:14 AMyeah, it's all about the framing... Posted by joe on August 1, 2006 8:35 AMThe way the balloon dwarfs the human is very interesting.l Posted by Kate Mura on August 1, 2006 4:00 PMNicely framed (i agree with the others). Considering it was pre-dawn, was a spotlight used to light the shot? Something about the colours makes me think it isn't natural lighting and so it comes off a certain way. Posted by CrankPhoto on August 1, 2006 4:19 PMDon't tell me... there were 99 of these red balloons? ;-) Posted by David [mondaymorningphoto.com] on August 1, 2006 6:15 PMvery cool. Posted by ben on August 1, 2006 7:07 PMCrank: The sunrise was around 5:50 that morning. I shot this around 7:15. No spotlights required. :) Posted by Kathleen on August 1, 2006 11:20 PMAnother super shot Kathleen! Posted by Tom on August 1, 2006 11:46 PMWow! The radial lines created such a wholesome composition, and the red colours on the balloon and the guy's shirt echo harmoniously. 84 was also the year i was born in. ;) Posted by PlasticTV on August 2, 2006 12:21 AMgreat sense of scale and use of color. bravo. Posted by Jeremy on August 2, 2006 11:36 AMI really like this, I love that it's not the typical balloon shot, full of primary colours and sedate dignity. The red here is the warm side of primary and the figure adds a feeling of struggle. The thing I like the most though is the hint of blue and green at the top and bottom. Posted by miles on August 3, 2006 10:25 AMVery cool, love this composition! Posted by Marco Correa on August 3, 2006 11:27 AMreally good composition with only four colours. it is very simple, i like it a lot. Posted by sylvainman on August 7, 2006 7:38 PMWonderful!
