Balloon 84

PHOTOGRAPH INFO

A little break from the 'Flour Portrait Project' today but it'll be back with a vengeance soon enough. :)

This photograph was taken on Saturday morning at a hot air balloon festival in Reddington, New Jersey, a 40 minute ride from Durham. About 100 balloons take off between 6:30 and 7:30 a.m. and it's quite a sight.

Probably worth looking at the larger version of this for the detail.

Post-processing: Shot with the Canon EOS 5D and the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L lens at 70mm, ISO 200, shutter speed 1/500s and aperture f/8. Basic curves adjustment, slight color balancing.

Thank you for visiting Durham Township!

Impressive shot - fabulous colours and a great crop/composition

I find this kind of shot with parachutes and baloons amazing, I wonder if the red colors shouldn't be saturated more?

Love it - Really like the way it fills the entire frame!

Lovely...The red is perfect, and it seems as if red is pretty tough sometimes. I like how you got the "crew" member in the shot, it really helps to show the scale of these balloons.

yeah, it's all about the framing...

The tones and colors are wonderful.

The way the balloon dwarfs the human is very interesting.l

Nicely framed (i agree with the others). Considering it was pre-dawn, was a spotlight used to light the shot? Something about the colours makes me think it isn't natural lighting and so it comes off a certain way.

Don't tell me... there were 99 of these red balloons? ;-)

Crank: The sunrise was around 5:50 that morning. I shot this around 7:15. No spotlights required. :)

Another super shot Kathleen!

Wow! The radial lines created such a wholesome composition, and the red colours on the balloon and the guy's shirt echo harmoniously. 84 was also the year i was born in. ;)

great sense of scale and use of color. bravo.

I really like this, I love that it's not the typical balloon shot, full of primary colours and sedate dignity. The red here is the warm side of primary and the figure adds a feeling of struggle. The thing I like the most though is the hint of blue and green at the top and bottom.
