Flour Portrait #2
PHOTOGRAPH INFO This photograph was taken at the same time as the previous photo. A commenter named javga mentioned that the last photo seemed almost 'cold' so I wanted to warm things up a bit around here. :) See the previous post for more information about this image and how it was made. That's flour floating in the background (and all over the subject's hair and clothing and skin) in case you didn't know. Post-processing: Shot with the Canon EOS 5D Thank you for visiting Durham Township! --Kathleen Comments
Wonderful idea and a priceless image. Posted by Troy on July 27, 2006 8:24 PMI love the depth here Kathleen, it takes the portrait to another level. The clarity up front looks great. Posted by Justin Gaynor on July 27, 2006 9:07 PMDefinitely 'warmer' and the googles make it that much 'stranger'(?). It has a nice soft feel. Posted by Crank on July 27, 2006 9:22 PMLove this. Posted by mjulius on July 27, 2006 10:05 PMI like this version better! Great work both ways. Posted by Paxton Prints on July 27, 2006 10:36 PMlol! This is great. I'm gonna go and grab a small child and cover it in flour for MY blog! Posted by Jon on July 28, 2006 2:30 AMI prefer this one to the last - his expression is more striking and I like the direct compsoition used. Great fun. And it's portrait theme at photo friday. What could be more perfect? Posted by LwS on July 28, 2006 3:59 AMYeah, the previous post almost seemed cold (to me). But it's that 'cold' look wich I liked. Science Fiction also comes in mind. This one is warm and friendly because of color and smile. It's a 'fun-shot.' But I prever the previous one because it simply rocks... Posted by javga on July 28, 2006 5:31 AMOverall impression is beautiful, especially the blue glasses are an eyecatcher. I'm missing a bit the sharpness (a tiny bit wider DOF) of the whole face, but I suppose it's done intentionally by you. Posted by KPK on July 28, 2006 5:58 AMWhat a surprise, it gave me a happy smile. Love the brilliant color, and the twinkle in the eyes. Posted by Noreen on July 28, 2006 9:45 AMThere is a beautiful softness to the image that I like very much. Phil Posted by [t e r r o r k i t t e n] on July 28, 2006 10:08 AMNeat expression. I like your "Flour Project". Posted by EJ on July 28, 2006 10:29 AMI love it. The blue goggles are to die for! Somehow I don't think I'd be able to get my kids to pose for this type of shot. Posted by Laurie on July 28, 2006 11:42 AMAre you familiar with William Wegman's photo, "Dusted"? Posted by j on July 28, 2006 12:16 PMBrilliant! Posted by Elisa Nobe on July 28, 2006 1:23 PMAlthough a modern photograph, this has a very "Rockwellish" look. It is well done, and makes you feel good looking at it. Posted by Todd Murray on July 28, 2006 9:03 PMi don't know how you conceived the idea but i'm loving it! i'm sure your model does, too. And that smile is so contagious! Posted by PlasticTV on July 29, 2006 2:39 AManother great portrait. your portrait work is getting almost as good as your landscape! ;-) Posted by david on July 29, 2006 4:57 PMAdorable :) Posted by Nishe on July 29, 2006 6:42 PMWonderful portrait, Kathleen. Posted by Rachel on July 30, 2006 2:31 PMThis one is very curious. I like it! Before reading the description for the previous image, I thought this was an underwater shot. Posted by Manne on July 30, 2006 3:59 PMgreat DOF. it's such a lovely portrait - playfully charming. really feeling this concept. Posted by Morenike on August 3, 2006 12:19 PMWoah, that's some serious dandruff! :-p Great shot Kathleen - the flour is a really fun idea. The blue goggles and the expression are what make this shot for me... ps: I notice I'm not the only one who wants to type googles instead of goggles! Posted by Stephen on August 7, 2006 7:59 AMincredible shot - great! Posted by Saxi on August 8, 2006 5:57 PMoh, i wanted my portrait to win the friday contest, but i have to give it to you; this is a bit special!! seriously excellent! Posted by david on August 9, 2006 8:54 AMI like it. Speak!
