Planting the Last of the Corn
PHOTOGRAPH INFO This photograph was taken a few weeks ago as Jakey planted the last of the corn for the season. Farmers stagger the plantings so the corn doesn't have to be harvested all at once; this was the last planting. The sky was really beautiful that afternoon - bright, crisp blue with giant clouds that filtered the sunlight. This was well before all of the crazy rain we've had; the earth was still pretty dry and dusty a few weeks back. Post-processing: Post-processing: Shot with the Canon EOS 5D Happy Fourth of July to those celebrating! Be safe, be happy, enjoy your summer! I'll be on vacation for a few days. Thank you for visiting Durham Township! --Kathleen Comments
You're right. The sky is nice. I'm just wondering how straight Jakey can make the rows. And it seems a little late to be planting corn. Here in South Jersey the corn is almost waist high. Posted by Ted on July 3, 2006 7:26 PMHard to believe the ground was ever that dry, given all the recent rain (I'm in Philly). This shot reminds me of summertime back home in Iowa, although the corn there is typically "knee high by the fourth of july." Posted by matt on July 3, 2006 9:26 PMI yearn for skies like that back here in Singapore. Sigh..... Posted by Noor Hazmee on July 3, 2006 10:49 PMAwsome shot. I love the tall blue sky. Posted by John on July 4, 2006 1:15 AMGreat shot! Posted by Jonathan on July 4, 2006 1:26 AMThe sky looks impressive as well as the greatly saturated colors. Posted by KPK on July 4, 2006 1:37 AMBeautiful image. The yellow at the bottom of the image sets off the blue of the sky perfectly. The crisp white clouds bring it all together. (in fact, all your images are amazing). Posted by Steve W on July 4, 2006 6:28 AMI figured this had to have been taken a while ago since the skies haven't been that crisp in what seems like weeks. I love these farm shots and as always this one is lovely. I love corn and I can't wait the first harvest to hit the stands. Posted by Laurie on July 4, 2006 7:22 AMLike it! Posted by javga on July 4, 2006 8:00 AMWhat a great sky you have captured! Beautiful! Posted by Chris on July 4, 2006 8:08 AMThis is simply beautiful! ... gosh it's so flawless i can't find the words to describe it... Posted by PlasticTV on July 4, 2006 8:59 AMHello kathleen, very beautiful shot. I like the opposition between the hot colors of the ground and this sky to major blue. I discover your site and your photographs are superb. You have a real talent. Excuse me for my approximate English. A lovely image - great emotion and sensitivity shown here. Posted by LwS on July 4, 2006 2:23 PMWonderfulk picture, as always I love the colors but also that sensation of being somewhere between space and earth... wonderful shot!! love the colors :-) Posted by Lee on July 5, 2006 5:47 AMThat's a really stunning shot, truly fantastic. Posted by Azhar on July 5, 2006 10:16 AMVery nice use of the wide angle lens. The only qualms I have with the image is that the tractor isn't very sharp. Maybe it's the JPEG compression - or maybe I'm just being too picky =). Regardless, excellent piece - especially the sky. Posted by Chris on July 5, 2006 2:12 PMI love the way the light hits the dust that is kicked up, it really makes the image. Well done. Posted by Justin Gaynor on July 5, 2006 3:22 PMGreat colors. Great shot! Posted by peter on July 6, 2006 4:02 PMVery nice picture. It is as though the cloud were closely following the John Deere across the field in order to ilummin the path of the planter........and you noticed. Thanks again, Posted by david Tinnon on July 6, 2006 6:03 PMBeautiful shot! Posted by Seth on July 6, 2006 6:49 PMWonderful!
