The Rope Swing

PHOTOGRAPH INFO

This photograph was taken tonight on the Delaware River. It was too dark to be shooting without a tripod, but I was up to my knees in river mud and decided to experiment with the available light. :) It was a still, warm and humid evening - great for a dip in the river.

Post-processing: Shot with the Canon EOS 5D and the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L lens at 24mm, ISO 3200, shutter speed 1/30s and aperture f/4. Converted the RAW file to black&white by using the gradient map (yes, that's the secret technique - I've outlined it in the comments on the previous post), added some vignette, basic curves adjustments for contrast, slight color balancing for tone.

Thanks for visiting Durham Township!

wow, you management to catch the movement so nicely with this few light. I'm impressed.

Passed by accidentally and I must say you have a real talent. Keep going.

I wouldn't have thought to make it B&W. Not bad. I'll bet the water was cold.

HThe photo has a nice, old feel to it, like it was taken from some long lost vacation.

Nice shot, and the b/w and vignetting gives it a timeless look.

You sure get dirty a lot. ;-)

Thanks for telling the secret. And hey, isn't that you over @ Miles' a few posts ago? Your snarky comment gave it away. Keep it up!

I wish that was me swinging into the water!

Nicely captured.

But..ISO 3200 and hardly any grain? Is it your camera or something you did in post-production?

Posted by Constantin on June 24, 2006 11:14 AM

that's some codpiece! ;) (what is that!)

nice shot!

Thanks, everyone!

Demetrice: Yes, that's me. Hahaha...I like that word 'snarky.' For anyone interested, here's the image from Miles Storey's site; it's from a trip to Toronto, Canada a few weeks ago:

Constantin: Yes, it's the camera. The Canon 5D does an amazing job at ISO 3200. No noise reduction on this image.

matto: The young man was wearing fashionably long and baggy swim trunks which moved upward with his body as he swung.

Just watched Spiderman the night before seeing this shot. The web looks a little knotty, but otherwise......
